Our Mission
Founded in 1987, The Humane Society of Schuyler County is a 501c3 not for profit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of animals in Schuyler County. Our mission is to eliminate pet overpopulation, prevent cruelty to animals, provide quality care for homeless animals, promote responsible pet ownership, and help the community to develop humane principles toward all animals. To address this mission we offer a low-cost spay/neuter service for the dogs and cats of eligible area residents.
We also provide pet food and shelter for animals in need, maintain a small medical emergency loan fund and provide annual free rabies clinics.
We are funded primarily through donations, gifts, grants and fundraising efforts. We receive no county, state or government funding for our on- going operation. Nor do we receive funds from national animal welfare organizations. If you are interested in volunteering or making a donation please call us at 594-2255. We’ll put your skills or your donations to good use! We hope you enjoy your visit with us. And, do check back often to see what we’re up to and how you can become a part of it!
The Humane Society of Schuyler County is a United Way Agency.
Adoption Policy
Every animal who crosses our door is an individual…not just a number. We work hard to make the perfect match with each and every adoption.
Cats and kittens are available for adoption at three months of age. Prior to adoption all cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, vaccinated for rabies, FVRCP, tested for feline leukemia and FIV, have had a fecal analysis and are treated for any internal or external parasites. Cats and kittens with a wide range of treatable disease and injury are provided the appropriate veterinary care. All adoptable cats have implanted microchips for identification.
Dogs and puppies are available for adoption at three months old. They are spayed or neutered, vaccinated for rabies, distemper (DH(L)PP), kennel cough and canine influenza virus. Dogs have had a fecal analysis and have been treated for internal and external parasites. All dogs are heartworm tested and microchipped. During their stay all dogs are given flea, tick and heartworm preventative on a monthly basis. Any dog with a treatable medical condition or injury is provided the appropriate care prior to being adopted.
Please call us at 607.594.2255 or send an email to info@schuylerhumane.org.
