Our Mission

The West Milford Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of companion animals through rescue, education, and advocacy. We work to place homeless pets in permanent, loving homes, reduce the number of unwanted animals, promote humane treatment, and foster a deeper appreciation of the human-animal bond.

Adoption Policy

We welcome you to visit us any day we are open—no appointment necessary. You are welcome to spend as much time as you would like getting to know our animals. Please call your veterinarian’s office to permit them to speak with us for our vet checks. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) to confirm pets are allowed. If you are interested in adopting a dog and already have one at home, we ask that you bring your dog along for a meet-and-greet on the second visit. In most cases, we require two successful meetings between the dogs before an adoption can proceed. Thank you for considering adopting from our shelter. We look forward to meeting you soon.
