Our Mission

The Last Resort is a small, private, volunteer based, non-profit rescue group in West Milford NJ. Most of our animals live in foster homes families in NJ or in MD. We make a lifetime commitment to ALL the animals we rescue and we do our best to ensure that the animals go to the home most suitable for their individual needs. Please understand that if you do not qualify for a particular animal, that it is only because in our vast experience, it is not the right dog for you and we will do everything possible to help you find your next family member.

Adoption Policy

In order to adopt one of our animals, an application must first be submitted. We will then check personal references, vet references, have a personal interview and then conduct a home visit. Once approved, you will then be able to meet our available pets. After the adoption takes place, you will have a two week trial period to make sure they are a match for you and your family. Our adoption fee is $350 for dogs and $400 for puppies. ALL animals will be spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm tested and be current on flea and heartworm prevention. PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE A FOSTER BASED RESCUE, NOT A SHELTER, THEREFORE WE DO NOT HAVE REGULAR HOURS. DOGS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE TO MEET AFTER YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN SUBMITTED, SCREENED AND APPROVED.
