Harris Adoption Pending Congrats Carolyn & Dean!'s Story

Meet Harris….We saw Harris in a kill shelter in GA. There was a video of Harris shaking uncontrollably and virtually frozen because he was so, so scared. Our hearts broke and we knew we couldn’t allow him to die there. Well it took Harris a few day to warm up and show us his personality and for the life of us we’ll never understand how an absolute perfect dog ends up homeless. Harris has been in a foster home in GA for three weeks and here’s what we know about him:

“Info on Harris since I have had him. When I first picked him up, he was so scared he poopooed 3 times in my car. Also, just stood there and shook and cried. I felt so sorry for him. His head always hung down and his tail was always between his legs. He would flinch when I would go to pet him and would hardly eat anything. His bones were all sticking out and he had no energy and would just lay on the floor looking at me. Well, that's the sad news. Now for the good news. He is no longer shaking or crying. He is eating very well, he is still thin, but he is putting on weight. His head is up, his tail is wagging all of the time, he plays a lot with my dog Friday. He likes to run and swim in the lake. Yes, he finally went in the lake and swam around all on his own. He loved it. He sits on the couch with me with his head in my lap and wants to be petted. He will roll on his back to have his tummy scratched. He is very tolerant of being bathed and brushed. He likes being brushed. Is not food it toy aggressive at all. Loves hugs and kisses. He follows me around the house, knows his name and comes when called. He will go in his crate by himself when the door is open and take a nap. I crate him in a huge crate with his food and water and beds and blankets at night. He sleeps through the night and doesn't have any accidents in his crate. He has not had any accidents in the house, but I watch him very carefully and let him out a lot. I have a fenced in back yard and he goes out with my dogs and plays and goes potty. I give him a treat when he comes back in. He would rather be in the house than the yard. I hope Dean and Carolyn you have another dog as he lives playing with my dogs. I fern him Nutro Natural lamb and rice adult dry dog food. He doesn't seem to like canned food, I've tried 7 different kinds of canned food and he won't eat it. I give him regular milk bones, he likes them. He walks well on a leash, but have not let him off the leash except in the fenced back yard. I don't want to lose him. He doesn't seem to know about playing with toys even though I have tons on them. He had 3 scars on his nose, but I don't know why. He had them when I got him. Oh, he loves people food (of course he does. Lol) that's about all I can think of at this time. But, he wants a lot of attention. He acts like he has never been petted and loved on. Such an absolutely sweet boy, you will love him. Give him lots of kisses for me. I will truly miss this guy. It's amazing how quickly we can love them. I love all of my fosters, but Harris is one if those special dogs it is harder to say good bye to. You will understand when you meet him. I hope he adjusts quickly and is not too sad. But, if he is, he will adapt quickly. I hope you send lots of pictures and updates, I would love to see him all filled out. He is a beautiful dog.'

Harris is 5 years old and is a Collie mix. He’s arriving to his foster home in NJ on 10/4. As you can see, Harris needs to be in a home with other playful, friendly dogs with a fenced in yard. Besides needing to gain some weight, Harris is a healthy, perfect boy!

Video: https://www.facebook.com/jeanne.cochran/videos/10207732843025273/
