Willow's Story

Location: Wilmington, OH

Meet Willow — a 20 lb Exotic Bully with a huge personality, a serious commitment to her people, and absolutely no interest in keeping her opinions to herself.

Willow is an incredibly sweet, affectionate little dog who LOVES her humans. She is smart, highly trainable, and once she settles in, she is an elite-level snuggler. She loves car rides, going places with her people, and generally being included in whatever is happening.

She also happens to be a tiny, muscular chaos machine when a ball is involved.

Willow LOVES toys and can become intense about them. She gets very excited during play and may jump up or grab at the toy — sometimes catching hands in the process. She has never intentionally harmed anyone or broken skin, but her enthusiasm is a lot. Her former adopters worked on “drop” and made good progress, and she is very responsive to training when toys aren't involved. Her ideal home will understand that her toy drive needs structure, boundaries, and continued training.

She has also done best with a slower introduction to other dogs. Willow can be overwhelming when she first meets them because she gets SO excited that her brain temporarily leaves the building. Once she has time to decompress and settle into a routine, she has done well with both large and small dogs. That said, she may be happiest as the only dog or with a dog who matches her energy and personality. She would likely do best with older children who can respect her space and understand that a 20 lb dog can still hit you like a linebacker when she's chasing a ball.

And then there is the potty situation.

Willow came back to us with a history of frequent urinary accidents that had not been explained despite veterinary testing. Since returning to rescue, she was treated for a UTI, and her foster has already seen a **significant improvement** in the amount of dribbling. However, she continues to have occasional urinary dribble accidents.

Given Willow's history of a severe vaginal prolapse — including a period where her bladder was displaced outside of its normal position for an extended period — we believe she may have some lasting urinary control issues. We cannot promise that she will ever be completely housebroken. Her future family needs to be comfortable with the possibility of continued management, including frequent potty breaks and/or diapers if necessary.

Her foster has been working on getting some much-needed weight back onto her, and she is doing well with that. She is now feeling much better and is ready to start looking for her forever home.

Willow has been through a LOT, but none of it has changed her opinion that she is supposed to be sitting directly beside you at all times. She is sweet. She is smart. She is incredibly affectionate. She is also intense, opinionated, toy-obsessed, and potentially a lifelong occasional pants-wearer.

Basically, she's a Frenchie.

**Willow is looking for a home that will appreciate the whole package and continue helping her be the best little dog she can be.**
