Somang's Story

***SUBMIT APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED: https://forms.gle/UmpfbgmydH7igSdN7

A long walk, some fun with dog friends, and a cozy spot beside her person: that's Somang's kind of day. Somang is a low-key cuddle bug at home and a cheerful walking companion outside. She loves being near her favorite person, checking in for petting, and settling down together. She enjoys companionship without needing constant entertainment. Her ideal family will appreciate both sides of her: the affectionate homebody and the playful girl who lights up around other dogs.

ADOPTION INFORMATION
Somang is currently fostered in South Korea and will fly to the United States with a flight volunteer once matched with a suitable family. Approved adopters receive a two-week trial and monitoring period with ongoing support from the rescue.
More Photos and Videos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/mPmND86KvkaDHGEa7
Website: https://neveraloneanimalrescue.org/

AT A GLANCE
Age: Approximately 3-4 years
Sex: Spayed female
Weight: Approximately 44 pounds
Body Condition: Normal
Energy Level: Moderate
House-Trained: Yes
Crate-Trained: Comfortably rests and sleeps in her crate at home

HER BEST MATCH
A quiet, adult-only home with gentle, patient caregivers, ideally women. A friendly, compatible resident dog could be a wonderful companion.
Somang is uncomfortable around children, including middle-schoolers, and particularly wary of middle-aged men. Her foster recommends a home without middle-aged male household members.
She enjoys affection on her own terms. Letting her approach and settle beside you works better than picking her up or reaching for a hug. Loud voices and sudden movements can frighten her.

PERSONALITY AND PEOPLE
Somang often approaches unfamiliar women after a brief look and asks for petting. With someone she trusts, she enjoys cuddling, lounging close by, and keeping them company throughout the day.
She is more selective with men. She may approach a man who greets her gently, but continued to avoid her foster's father despite repeated visits.
New surroundings can make her pant or startle. Give her time to settle into a predictable routine and discover that she is safe.

OTHER DOGS AND CATS
Dogs: Friendly with dogs of different sizes and especially enthusiastic about large dogs. She often wags and whines when she wants to say hello and enjoys opportunities to play.
If a small dog barks at her, she generally backs away or keeps walking without barking back.
Cats: Has shown little interest in cats indoors but tries to chase them outdoors. Compatibility with cats in an adoptive home has not been established.

LIFE AT HOME
Somang is generally relaxed indoors. She enjoys napping near her person and occasionally stopping by to ask for affection.
Time Alone: Has managed approximately 4 to 6 hours in her foster home, usually sleeping while her caregiver is out.
Separation: May wait by the door or check for her person, but her foster reports no separation anxiety.
Destructive Behavior: None observed.
Barking: Mostly in response to a knock or activity immediately outside the door. Occasionally barks when excited about another dog.
Indoor Toys: Limited interest. She would usually rather spend time with her person or head outside for a walk.

WALKS AND PLAY
Somang loves her walks and enjoys exploring, meeting friendly dogs, and running around with her person. She also likes a playful game of hide-and-seek.
Routine: At least three outings daily, including longer morning and evening walks and a shorter midday potty break.
Leash Manners: May pull toward dogs or interesting destinations, or stop when she wants to take a different route. Continued reward-based practice will help.
Training: Has practiced sit, wait, and down, with progress responding without a visible treat.
Safety: She once ran off after her harness buckle came undone. Use a securely fitted harness and collar with a backup connection. Off-leash play must be limited to securely fenced areas.

HOUSE TRAINING
Fully house-trained and goes to the bathroom outdoors only.
She needs consistent potty breaks and enough time to find a comfortable spot. Rain, wearing a raincoat, heat, or distractions such as cats may make her reluctant to go.
She does not always ask to go outside, so her family should maintain a regular schedule.

CRATE TRAINING AND CAR RIDES
Crate: Somang has made wonderful progress with patient practice and a larger crate. By October, she was choosing to go inside, relax, and sleep there on her own.
Crate Travel: Still needs practice. Her comfort in a crate at home has not yet been established during travel.
Car Rides: Gets into the car but may pant and have trouble settling while it is moving. She needs safe restraint and gradual practice.

FOOD AND ALLERGIES
Current Food: Salmon-based kibble.
Favorite Treats: Boiled sweet potato, chicken breast, and Whimzees dental chews.
Allergies: Her foster reports a history of reactions, but the exact trigger is unknown. Poultry was initially suspected after a reaction to poultry-based food, although chicken and duck treats have since been tolerated without an observed flare-up.
A poultry allergy is not confirmed. Adopters should monitor food tolerance and share this history with their veterinarian.

HEALTH AND GROOMING
Heartworm History: Has received heartworm treatment. Treatment completion and follow-up test results need confirmation.
Dental Care: Professional dental cleaning will be completed before Somang leaves South Korea.
Parasite Prevention: NexGard Spectra on the 20th of each month, year-round, including winter.
Bathing: Dislikes baths and blow-dryers, but her foster reported improvement during a later bath. No biting during baths was reported.
Toothbrushing: More comfortable having her front teeth brushed than her back teeth.
Shedding: Seasonal shedding reported.

RESCUE STORY
Somang and her only surviving puppy were rescued from Hongseong Municipal Shelter, a municipal kill shelter in South Korea. Her son has since found his forever home, but Somang is still waiting for hers.
This loving mom deserves a family of her own. Give Somang the chance to be someone's beloved companion for life.

A FAMILY OF HER OWN
Somang isn't looking for nonstop excitement. She is looking for someone to share her everyday joys: a good walk, a friendly dog to play with, and a comfortable place to cuddle afterward.
For a gentle family that respects her boundaries and gives her time to settle, Somang has so much affection to offer.

ADOPTION FEE: 650 dollars
Includes spay surgery, vaccinations, microchip, dental cleaning, pre-departure veterinary exam and care, health certificate, and transportation to the United States.
