Shepherd's Story
Meet Shepherd!

When Shepherd was first available for adoption, he captured so many hearts, and we truly believed we had found his perfect match. His previous family went above and beyond for him, pouring endless love, time, patience, and dedication into helping him succeed. Unfortunately, Shepherd is back with us and looking for the right person to give him the forever home he deserves. The family's decision to return him was made with an incredible amount of thought and love, and we are so grateful for everything they did for this special boy.

As Shepherd has grown, we've learned more about what he needs to thrive. He forms an exceptionally strong bond with one primary person and struggles in homes with multiple caretakers or other pets. Because of this, we are seeking a home with a single caretaker and no other animals, where he can build the deep, one-on-one relationship that makes him feel secure.

Despite his size, Shepherd is a wonderfully laid-back puppy. He isn't a high-energy dog who needs hours of exercise every day. A 30-minute walk, a little backyard playtime, and plenty of time relaxing with his person are all it takes to make him happy. His favorite place is right by your side.

Shepherd is already potty and kennel trained, currently sleeps in his crate, not food aggressive, and walks well on the leash. He does well in public and is happy to say hi to strangers.

At just 5 months old, Shepherd already weighs 50 pounds and is expected to reach 80100 pounds as an adult. DNA testing shows he is approximately 50% Rottweiler, with large percentages of Mastiff and Cane Corso. Because of his size, breed mix, and behavioral needs, large guardian breed experience is required.

Shepherd will need a committed adopter who understands resource guarding and is willing to continue his training and management. With the right structure, consistency, and experienced handler, we know he has the potential to thrive.

At this time, we're looking for either a foster or forever home that can provide the environment he needs to be successful.

If you think you could be Shepherd's person, we'd love to hear from you. Please reach out with any questions or submit an application at linktr.ee/zoisanimalrescue.

Help us find the one person who will give this sweet boy the life he deserves.
