Rafa

Meet Rafa!

And then there was one...

Rafa is the very last puppy from his litter still waiting for his forever family. One by one, his siblings have all found their homes, and somehow, this sweet boy is still waiting for someone to choose him.

Rafa is an adorable 4-month-old male mixed-breed puppy weighing approximately 22 pounds. He is expected to be a large dog when fully grown, which just means there will be even more of him to love!

Rafa has been living in a loving foster home in Glen Arm, Maryland, since he was just 8 weeks old. His foster family has given him a wonderful start in life, but he has already spent half of his young life in rescue. While his siblings are making memories with their forever families, Rafa is still waiting for his chance.

One of Rafa’s siblings recently had a DNA test revealing a mix of German Shepherd, Great Pyrenees, and Rhodesian Ridgeback! While we cannot guarantee Rafa’s exact breed mix, he certainly has some unique features, including an adorable ridge of hair down his back that grows in the opposite direction of his coat, giving him his very own little mohawk!

But Rafa is so much more than a handsome face!

Thanks to his foster family, Rafa is already completely crate trained, sleeps through the night without potty breaks, and does wonderfully with house training when kept on a consistent schedule. He even knows how to sit! He is smart, food motivated, and eager to learn, making him a wonderful candidate for continued training.

Rafa is wonderful with children and other dogs! He has also met a cat and did great. With proper introductions and continued socialization, he could potentially do well with feline friends, too!

With his sweet personality and the wonderful foundation he has already received, Rafa could even be a great match for a first-time puppy family prepared for the responsibilities of raising a large dog.

The heartbreaking part is that Rafa has done absolutely nothing wrong. He is not waiting because he is difficult or because he has behavioral problems. He is simply the last one left.

Every day, he grows a little bigger, and we would love nothing more than for him to spend the rest of his puppyhood making memories with a family of his own.

His foster family loves him dearly, but fostering was always meant to be temporary. Rafa deserves a family who will love him for the rest of his life.

All his siblings have found their happily ever after. Now we just need someone to give Rafa his.

Rafa is currently being fostered in Glen Arm, Maryland.

If you are interested in adopting Rafa, please complete an application below. An approved application is required before scheduling a meet and greet.

https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PDAR/Dog

Rafa’s adoption fee is $550, with $100 refunded after proof of neutering.

His adoption fee helps cover routine veterinary care, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and transportation. We also partner with VCA Animal Hospitals to provide adopters with a complimentary initial wellness exam.

Rafa has not yet been neutered. His adopter will be required to sign a legally binding spay/neuter contract agreeing to have him neutered when age-appropriate, typically around 6 months unless otherwise advised by a veterinarian. Once proof of neutering is provided, the rescue will refund $100 of his adoption fee.

Most of our adoptable dogs come from overcrowded shelters or are rescued directly from the streets of South Texas. As a nonprofit rescue, 100% of adoption fee proceeds go back into caring for our animals, including those requiring extensive medical care that far exceeds their adoption fees. Every adoption helps us save more lives!

Rafa is ready for his happily ever after!
