Phats's Story

Phats is my name - at least that's what my paperwork says. Yes, I could stand to lose a few pounds and I hope when I get adopted someone will change my name to something more regal, more fitting, more...me!

For those of you who have been following the Pyrs at AGPR, you may say I look familiar. Think back to the four dogs who arrived at AGPR in August 2024...Sumo, Brownie, Mame and Gracie. We all think I'm related to them. My friends at AGPR will be doing a DNA to see if we are right. I have Mame and Gracie's coloring and the soulful, beautiful eyes and temperament of Sumo and Brownie.

Age? Five-ish. If my DNA shows that I'm from the same litter as Sumo, Brownie, and Mame, that will support the age.

Personality? I'm a tiny bit shy until you show me you're my friend. Then leash me up, tell me how handsome I am, share a few pets and take me for a long walk. It is so great to be able to walk and take in all the sights and sounds that are new to me. I'm a pretty good walker and sometimes will even ignore the squirrels (sometimes!).

I'm sure you know that all Great Pyrenees require a fenced-in yard (at least four foot high). If you have questions about the breed or AGPR's adoption policies and procedures, please go to their website at www.agprescue.org. There's plenty of good information about the breed on their website - Pyrs aren't a breed for everyone!

Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue's Adoption Policy
We believe that any prospective owner of a Great Pyrenees should be educated about the breed and we stand behind all of our placements for the life of the dog. If you adopt a dog through AGPR, you can expect us to be there if you have any questions about the breed, if you need help, if you’re having problems, or for any reason at all. If for any reason you can’t keep your adopted dog, you must return it to the rescue. We expect all adoptive homes to an adequate physical fencing, to be able to care for a large breed of dog, to provide appropriate medical care, and to be committed to making the adoption of a rescue dog a success. Our adoption fees are $400 for adults and $450 for puppies (12 months and younger). All dogs have received medical care, are up to date on shots and are spayed/neutered and microchipped. Adoption fees go directly to our rescue fund to help pay for the health and vet treatment of previous and newly rescued Pyrs.
