Marine's Story
📌 PLEASE READ FIRST — MARINE’S MATCHING PRIORITY
Marine is currently in South Korea and can fly to the U.S. once matched with a suitable family.

Because Marine is a smart, energetic young dog who is still working on leash reactivity, outdoor potty training, and basic manners, we are prioritizing applicants who can provide daily exercise, structure, consistency, and clear leadership.

Marine is not the best match for a family looking for an “easy” or fully trained dog right away. He has immense love and potential, but he needs adopters who understand that training, boundaries, routine, and follow-through are just as important as affection.

✅ Best Fit for Marine:
- An active home with adults
Adopters who enjoy walking, training, and providing calm, firm, and consistent leadership.
- A family willing to actively continue his leash training, outdoor potty routine, and manners work.

⚠️ Please Note (Safety & Behavior):
- Reactivity: Marine has leash reactivity toward other dogs and reacts to cats, pigeons, and small animals.
- No Cats/Small Animals: He is not recommended for homes with cats or other small animals.
- Jumping/Mouthing: He can jump or mouth sleeves and hands when excited; continued guidance and boundary setting are essential.

📝 Apply to Adopt Marine: https://forms.gle/UmpfbgmydH7igSdN7
📸 Photos & Videos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/VfCRkJBCmz8oRHWM7

To be considered, a complete written adoption application must be submitted first. Today, he is a bright, affectionate, and playful dog who loves people. With a family that can offer both deep affection and calm leadership, he has wonderful potential to be a loyal, joyful companion.

📋 Quick Facts & Health
Age / Weight: ~1 year old / 18 lbs (8 kg).
Energy Level: High (4 out of 5).
Health: Healthy with no known allergies. He had bilateral patellar luxation surgery on his back legs in December 2025 and is fully recovered and doing well.
Diet & Meds: Eats Now Grain-Free Small Breed. Receives NexGard Spectra on the 16th of each month (flea/tick/heartworm prevention), which must be continued consistently.

🌿 Personality
Marine is a highly people-loving dog who happily approaches men and women for affection and pets. He is playful, clever, and very quick to read people and situations. Because he is so smart and energetic, he thrives with people who provide both love and structure. Marine should not be allowed to make all of his own decisions; he responds best when his caregiver is calm, clear, confident, and consistent.

👨👩👧 With People & Children
Marine does well with people of all genders and respectful children who enjoy interacting with dogs. Because he can be energetic and may jump or mouth sleeves/hands when excited, his future family must be comfortable continuing his basic manners training, especially around kids.

🐶 With Other Dogs
Marine generally enjoys dogs his size or smaller, though he doesn't always read their social signals perfectly. He is nervous around larger dogs and may avoid playing with them. Crucially, Marine exhibits leash reactivity toward other dogs. His foster family successfully redirects him back to the handler, helping him settle and calmly reassuring him as the dog passes. His future family must be willing to continue this exact, consistent approach.

🐱 With Cats & Small Animals
Marine is not recommended for homes with cats or small animals. He has tried to rush toward cats and requires strict caution around them.

🏠 Home Behavior

Alone Time: Left alone for 8–9 hours on weekdays and 2–3 hours on weekends with no separation anxiety. He usually does nosework activities, then sleeps. He is not destructive with furniture, though he may occasionally tear up cardboard recycling.

Resting: Prefers sleeping on beds that smell like his caregivers, or comfortably on his own mat/blanket left by the door when he is home alone.

🚽 Potty Training (Ongoing)
Marine currently goes 50% outdoors and 50% indoors. He drinks a lot of water and urinates frequently. On days when he cannot go outside, he may poop indoors. Note: If no one is watching, he may eat his poop. His future family must be aware of this and commit to building a consistent outdoor potty routine.

🚶 Walks & Exercise
Marine currently gets two walks a day (30 minutes in the morning, 1 hour in the evening). He enjoys his walks but pulls on the leash and reacts to dogs, pigeons, and cats. He needs an active family that can provide daily walks, mental enrichment, and consistent, calm redirection training on the leash.

🚗 Car Rides: Rides very well. He may jump in himself or be lifted in; he usually relaxes and sleeps comfortably.
📦 Crate Training: Currently in progress.
🛁 Grooming: He doesn't love bathing or brushing but is highly cooperative and handles grooming and drying well.
🧸 Favorites: Running, nosework, tug, chase games, puzzle toys, squeaky plushies, chicken breast, sweet potatoes, apples, and bananas.
📏 Measurements: Neck: 28 cm / Chest: 48 cm

🏡 Ideal Home & The Reality
Marine needs an active family that truly includes him in their daily life through walks, playtime, and training.

The Reality: He is very smart and responsive, but he may test limits with new people at first. He needs clear rules, consistent boundaries, and calm leadership. A home that simply spoils him or allows unwanted behaviors because he is "cute" is not the right match. Adopters must be prepared to guide him patiently rather than letting him decide what he can and cannot do.

The Reward: Marine has already made massive improvements with consistent training in his foster home. With a family that balances deep affection with firm, structured guidance, Marine will become an incredibly loyal and deeply rewarding companion.
