Fiji D12828's Story
Fiji's story started in a way no puppy deserves. At just a few months old, she was abandoned in a box outside an impound. We don't know what happened before that box, but somehow it didn't steal her joy. This girl is HAPPY.

Fiji is about 4 months old and very much a puppy - complete with tiny shark teeth, puppy antics, zoomies, and a tendency to bounce up and down when she's excited. We're working on her manners, but at this age she's still figuring out how to puppy appropriately.

And then there's her voice. Fiji has LOTS to say. She barks while playing with my dogs. She barks at her toys. She barks outside. Sometimes I'm pretty sure she barks just because she has an important announcement to make. She is a VERY terrier and definitely isn't going to be winning any awards for being the strong, silent type.

That said, she knows how to settle. She sleeps quietly in her crate all night, and when I check the camera while I'm at work, she's quiet in her crate during the day too. Her terrier commentary comes out when she's busy living her best life, but she understands that crate time is quiet time.

We're also working on potty training, and she's doing pretty darn well! She's still a baby, though, so accidents happen. Her new family should expect that a transition into a new home may come with a few steps backward while she learns a new routine and environment. Patience and consistency will go a long way.

Fiji will definitely benefit from puppy obedience classes. She's smart, energetic, eager to engage, and at the perfect age to start building good habits. Classes will help her learn some puppy manners, give that busy little terrier brain something productive to do, and - just as importantly - help her build a strong relationship with her new person. She has so much potential; she just needs someone willing to put in the work while she's young. She will also benefit from mental stimulation (kongs, puzzle toys etc, anything like that to keep her little brain stimulated and occupied)

Fiji is currently fed separately from the other dogs because she has shown some food-guarding tendencies toward them when they walk past her crate while she's eating. She has not shown this behavior toward me. Because we know nothing about her life before she was abandoned, it's possible food wasn't always guaranteed and she learned early that she needed to protect it. For now, giving her a safe, separate place to eat keeps everyone comfortable and successful.
