Yes, as long as they're taught to respect the dogs belongings <br/>and boundaries.<br/><br/>HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training.<br/><br/>ABOUT: China wandered into her foster mom Susana's neighborhood one day looking for food.<br/><br/>She came back the next day.<br/><br/>And the next.<br/><br/>Susana searched for her family, asked neighbors, and tried everything she could think of to find where China belonged. No one came looking for her.<br/><br/>What finally convinced Susana to bring her home was watching China calmly cross a busy avenue over and over again, completely unaware of how dangerous it was. She realized that if someone didn't step in, China might not survive another day on the streets.<br/><br/>So she opened her door.<br/><br/>And China never looked back.<br/><br/>Today, Susana describes her as: "The perfect companion for someone who wants a peaceful, quiet best friend."<br/><br/>China is the definition of an easy roommate.<br/><br/>She rarely barks.<br/><br/>She isn't demanding.<br/><br/>She doesn't create chaos.<br/><br/>She simply finds a cozy place near her person and quietly enjoys being together. Susana often says, "It's almost like there's no dog in the house," and she means it as the highest compliment.<br/><br/>The loud trucks and busy streets that once frightened her are now behind her. She has fully embraced indoor life, where she spends her days napping in the sunshine, following the warm patches of light across the room, and quietly keeping you company.<br/><br/>China isn't looking for adventure.<br/><br/>She's looking for someone.<br/><br/><br/>China is estimated to be 8-10 years old, and while she has a few age-related medical conditions, she is doing very well.<br/><br/>China recently had a complete veterinary evaluation in July 2026, including comprehensive bloodwork, a dental procedure, and a consultation with a veterinary cardiologist. Her bloodwork was reassuring overall, and she recently had 11 painful teeth removed due to advanced dental disease, which has greatly improved her comfort and quality of life. She also has chronic dry eye and cataracts, both of which are being managed with lifelong eye drop medications. <br/><br/>Her echocardiogram confirmed Degenerative Mitral Valve Disease (Stage B2), a common age-related condition in small senior poodle type dogs. She has already started the recommended heart medication, pimobendan, which she will need to take for the rest of her life. To help make her transition into her forever home as easy as possible, The MexiMutt Project will provide one full year of her heart medication after adoption. At this time, China has no signs of congestive heart failure, and with medication many dogs with this condition continue to enjoy an excellent quality of life for years<br/><br/>China would not be happy in a busy, high-energy household.<br/><br/>She would thrive with someone who enjoys slow mornings, quiet evenings, and the simple joy of having a loyal little companion nearby.<br/><br/>If you're looking for a hiking partner, China probably isn't your girl.<br/><br/>But if you're looking for a best friend who will quietly follow you from room to room, nap beside you while you read, watch TV, or work from home, and remind you every day that love doesn't have to be loud...<br/><br/>China may be exactly who you've been waiting for.<br/><br/>Senior dogs have a way of loving differently. Here's what to expect:<br/><br/>Because our dogs cannot return to Mexico if there isn't a good fit, we're extra thorough in matching each dog with the right family ensuring lifelong success for both dog and adopter.<br/><br/>1. [Required] Complete our online application at www.bapbr.org<br/>2. Phone interview with director Angela if we determine there's a good fit<br/>3. We arrange the flight to Oregon (included in fee) and send periodic photo/video updates <br/>4. Airport pickup at PDX, pay adoption fee, receive medical records, welcome your new family member home!<br/><br/>Timeline: 2-4 weeks for CDC/USDA paperwork and flight arrangement once approved.<br/><br/><br/>$650 Adoption Fee includes all of the following:<br/>- Flight to Oregon, USDA import permit, Screwworm Health Certificate<br/>- Spay/neuter, core vaccines (DHLPPi, Rabies, Bordetella). Flea/tick/heartworm treatment & deworming.<br/>- Blood work & health tests (CBC, blood parasite tests, parvo/giardia/coronavirus test). <br/>- Grooming. Microchip. Collar, leash & ID tag.<br/><br/>Payment methods accepted: Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or cash<br/><br/>The Meximutt Project is 100% volunteer-run by a small team of dedicated animal lovers. We cannot respond to every application due to high volume, but if we think there's a good match, we'll reach out.
