Yes, as long as they're taught to respect the dogs belongings and boundaries.<br/>HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training.<br/><br/>China showed up one day near her foster's home and started eating. She came back the next day, and the next. Her foster tried to find her family put out the word, asked around. Nobody came.<br/><br/>What finally made the decision was watching China cross a busy avenue over and over, day after day, with the serene indifference of a dog who had no idea how close she was to disaster. So her foster brought her inside.<br/><br/>And that was that.<br/><br/>China is, in her foster Susana's words, "a dog for someone very calm maybe older who wants company." She doesn't bark. She doesn't fight. She doesn't ask for much. She finds a spot near wherever you are and settles in, and the house hums along peacefully with her in it. "It's as if there's no dog," Susana says and she means it as the highest compliment.<br/><br/>The trucks and loud noises that used to startle her when she first came in don't bother her anymore. She's made her peace with the indoors, which she clearly prefers. She sleeps a lot, follows the light around the room, and has mastered the art of simply being present without demanding anything.<br/><br/>China would be mismatched with an active, chaotic household. But for the right person someone who would love a quiet, devoted companion who asks for nothing louder than your presence she would be everything.<br/><br/>Is that home yours?<br/><br/>*************************<br/><br/>Ready to apply? Here's what to expect:<br/><br/>Because our dogs cannot return to Mexico if there isn't a good fit, we're extra thorough in matching each dog with the right family ensuring lifelong success for both dog and adopter.<br/><br/>1. [Required] Complete our online application at www.bapbr.org<br/>2. Phone interview with director Angela if we determine there's a good fit<br/>3. We arrange the flight to Oregon (included in fee) and send periodic photo/video updates <br/>4. Airport pickup at PDX, pay adoption fee, receive medical records, welcome your new family member home!<br/><br/>Timeline: 2-4 weeks for CDC/USDA paperwork and flight arrangement once approved.<br/><br/><br/>$650 Adoption Fee includes all of the following:<br/>- Flight to Oregon, USDA import permit, Screwworm Health Certificate<br/>- Spay/neuter, core vaccines (DHLPPi, Rabies, Bordetella). Flea/tick/heartworm treatment & deworming.<br/>- Blood work & health tests (CBC, blood parasite tests, parvo/giardia/coronavirus test). <br/>- Grooming. Microchip. Collar, leash & ID tag.<br/><br/>Payment methods accepted: Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or cash<br/><br/>The Meximutt Project is 100% volunteer-run by a small team of dedicated animal lovers. We cannot respond to every application due to high volume, but if we think there's a good match, we'll reach out.
