Meet Chewy<br/><br/>Chewy is about 5–6 years old and a really good dog who just hasn’t had the consistency he deserves.<br/><br/>He first came into the parish animal shelter as a stray in the summer of 2023 and was adopted quickly. A year and a half later, he was returned due to housing issues. He was adopted again the same day… and then returned again just over a year later. That's when we stepped in and pulled him into our rescue so we can find the best for him.<br/><br/>At this point, we’re not looking for “just another home.” We are looking for the right home. His last home.<br/><br/>Because through all of that, Chewy has remained incredibly sweet, affectionate, and people-focused. His foster mom says he just wants to be near you, soak up attention, and finally feel like he belongs somewhere for good.<br/><br/>He can be a little sensitive to loud or chaotic environments, so a home without a lot of yelling or constant commotion would help him feel safe and settled. Once he feels secure, his playful, goofy personality really comes out.<br/><br/>Chewy gets along well with other dogs, enjoys car rides, and is just as happy exploring as he is curled up next to you on the couch.<br/><br/>Like many small breed dogs, he will require regular grooming every 6–8 weeks. When he came to us, his skin was in rough shape, likely from untreated allergies and lack of proper care. With medicated baths and a Cytopoint injection, he is already feeling much better and his coat is growing back in nicely.<br/><br/>Let’s be clear. Chewy is not disposable. He is not a temporary companion until your lease changes or life gets inconvenient. He is a commitment. If you are ready to give a dog stability, routine care, and a lifetime home, Chewy will give you everything he has in return.<br/><br/>Contact our volunteer dog adoption coordinator, Martha, at cajunlassie78@att.net to schedule a time to meet this wonderful happy boy.<br/><br/>Adoption fee includes vaccines, spay/neuter surgery, microchip and a heartworm test. Any dog that tests positive for heartworms can be treated through our Fix-A-Heart Program.
