Bilby (Aussie Animal litter)'s Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet the Aussie Animal litter. These puppies are from a last litter - Mommy is an Aussie / Husky mix and is very pretty. We were told daddy was a Golden Retriever and DNA confirmed it. These puppies are very fluffy and adopters may need to be prepared to include grooming in their budget. They are very sweet - in need of manners - but it's mostly not knowing any better. They have met big dogs, little dogs, and even a cat... no issues. While not traditionally housebroken, he's only had a couple accident in the house, and is crating when the foster is gone. He sleeps in his crate at night for 7+ hours.

When Bilby first arrived, the entire 'living in the house' was a little scary. But he's adjusting fast and learning what it means to be a loved dog. He LOVES LOVES LOVES toys, collecting them is much fun! This boy is such a Golden Retriever in nature and love. He's got a very soft personality and we think he would be good with just about any family willing to give him the time to settle in - he can be a bit shy, we are working on exposure to the entire outside world. He's an excellent couch snuggler and very responsive to correction - smart boy! Perhaps another friendly dog would be a good companion to show him the ropes. He's playful and fun with the foster's resident dogs - big and small. Because he can be a little uncertain about new things, we think older children (over 10) would be a better fit.

Foster update 10/24: What a doofus! Bilby is so sweet and has really come out of his shell. He loves to cuddle on the couch or bed and has been a great office companion. We are working on some leash manners, he's never been on one. Housebreaking is going really well - he just needs reminders and a schedule. He sleeps in his crate all night, with every toy he's collected from the toy basket. Bilby is a great dog!

At 7 months old, he's in the 50# range, likely to be 60-70# when fully grown.
This puppy is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated.

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions typically take place in Stanwood.
Adoption fee is $525. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sundays to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We dont ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your dog.
