When I agreed to adopt a dog for my, then, 7 year old son, I wanted a smaller dog, no bigger than 40 pounds. My first place to look was the Clarington Animal Shelter, only made sense since I live in Bowmanville. When we went to visit, they only had big dogs available for adoption. One in particular had caught my eye but she weighed about 70 pounds...about the size of a German Shepherd of which she was a partial breed. She was quite high strung so I was unsure of what to do. I decided that we would look at the shelter in Toronto. After seeing many dogs there, we still couldn't find one that was suitable for us. Needless to say, my son was extremely disappointed that we weren't bringing our new dog home that day. It was a Friday, so I decided that if the dog I had seen at the Clarington Shelter was still there on Monday, I would surprise my son with her. Sure enough she was still there when I went back. When I brought her home she settled in very nicely. She was much more calm than she was at the shelter. She became my best friend for the next 11 years. She was always by my side and was at her happiest when we would go for walks in the woods. I could walk her without a leash and she would always come when I called her. Sadly we had to have her put down a few weeks ago. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I loved her so very much and miss her with all my heart. But she brought us so much joy and happiness and I'm very grateful for that.
