I had been looking for a dog for nearly a year. Carefully considering different breeds. I was looking for a companion for my husband and me, a playmate for our son, and a guard dog for when my husband (US Army Res. Sgt.) was away on training. After striking out elsewhere, a friend told me about Petfinder.com, so I put in my search criteria and was quickly greeted by hundreds of beautiful furry friends, but one in particular stood out. At the time the shelter had been calling her Cherokee, an adorable red/brown Doberman mix. After a meet & greet to ensure Cherokee would get along with my young son, I knew she was the perfect fit for my family. We call her Roxy now, and she is everything we could have wanted in a forever friend. Roxy is my workout buddy as we take our daily hikes through the hiking trails on my property. When Roxy isn't hiking with me, she is playing with my son on our deck or in the yard. I am constantly impressed with how gentle and patient she is with my 2-year-old son. A majority of Roxy's time, however, is spent cuddled up on the couch with her head in my husband's lap or engulfed in one of my son's blankies while he uses her as a pillow. Roxy is a perfect example of how shelter animals are just looking for a second chance. My family and I will always be grateful to the Carter County Animal Shelter and Petfinder.com for bringing us together w/ith our perfect Roxy girl.
