About a year and a half ago, we lost our old boy, Buster, which left his younger packmate, Dusty, with no one to play with except her humans, and she was lonely. However, it took my husband and I awhile to decide to get another dog after losing Buster. When I was ready, I nudged my husband until he agreed it was time, and I began to stalk Petfinder. We had found Dusty there and I hoped to find her a new friend there also.
After a month or so of daily checks and almost daily "maybe" dogs, I found a few at a private rescue group that I thought might fit what we wanted. I spoke with them on the phone, and the rescue owner really thought one dog they had would be a good fit and we arranged for her to bring him up to visit us at the house.
She came in with the cutest and most friendly dog we could have ever imagined (and also brought his foster mom for the home visit). His name was Bubba (thanks to his foster mom and a perfect name for a Southern dog), and he had been a rather rough looking stray they have picked up and had been fostering for four months. It turns out he's a black German Spitz (looks purebred with the curly tail and foxy face and fur) about two years old, and he joined our family like putting on old jeans. A perfect comfortable fit! Our older dog, Dusty, is very happier now. Dusty is on the left in the picture and Bubba is on the right. They are good pals already!
Bubba is smart, sweet, and well-behaved, and we couldn't have imagined a more perfect fit. While I had hoped to find a dog from a high-kill shelter, sometimes the right dog just somehow finds you and there's just nothing you can do but make them part of your family.
Thank you, Petfinder, for all you do to find loving forever homes for animals who just want and deserve love.
