I was searching the web for a kitty for my mom about a year and a half ago, when I came across a picture of "Blackie." I instantly fell in love. She was the sweetest little kitty I ever saw. Even though black cats have an awful reputation and people have all sorts of superstitious misconceptions about them, I knew I had to meet her in person.
I went down to the shelter almost immediately, thinking she's be swept up in a second. However, when I arrived, I found out that she'd been sitting in the shelter waiting for someone to adopt her for awhile (even though she was still a kitten at 9 months old), but the volunteer told me black cats spend more time in shelters than any other color of cat and it wasn't unusual.
When the volunteer brought her to me in the visitation room, she ran right over and gave me hugs and cuddles. She sat on my lap and played with the strings on my purse for the next half hour, purring away.
