I had been thinking about adopting a dog for quite a while. I would check the Petfinder site every week, looking for that special dog that would claim my heart. That was when I saw Echo (as they were calling her. I later changed her name to Ciara). I went up to the Delco SPCA that very weekend to meet her. She wasn't there. They told me she had been adopted. I was crushed. OK, so back to the drawing board I went. I looked again the following week, and she was still there but with the word "Foster" over her picture. Excellent! So there was still a chance! Went back up to the SPCA, and she was actually there this time. The foster situation she was in didn't work out. I took her out and spent a good three hours with her. My boyfriend came up with his dog to meet her too. I didn't jump right away. I gave her back and sat to talk with my boyfriend, who recommended that I foster her. That same day, I filled out the foster parent application and dropped it right off. Two days later, I was approved. The next day, I was bringing Ciara home! Needless to say, it didn't take me long to totally fall in love with her (I must have had a premonition of some kind) and make her mine permanently. Ciara has now been a member of the family for about two months. She is so sweet and so wonderful, I couldn't have asked for better. In another few months, I definitely want to look at fostering again.
And to those who have reservations about Pit Bulls, I can understand there are some unfriendly ones out there, but please don't the reputation deter you from giving one a chance or at least meeting it. I never would have found Ciara. nor would my boyfriend found his dog if I stereotyped. Just take a look at that face and tell me you have seen anything sweeter than that.
