Joey - A Petfinder Happy Tail
Joey - posted 04/29/2016
From Naomi of Marietta, OH
Joey was abandoned in an outdoor pen at the Humane Society in the middle of the night in 2012. The moment my husband and I laid eyes on his sweet, floppy-eared photo on Petfinder, we fell madly in love and knew he was the one. And let me tell you, he has brought more joy, laughter, frustrations, scares and love into our lives than we could have imagined.
It was thought that he was a German Shepherd mix when we adopted him and everyone thought he was going to be a giant. Well, three years later, he is only 45 lbs. and stands about a foot and half. After extensive research, we are 100% sure that he is a Red Heeler/Corgi mix, two of the most energetic, loyal and intelligent dogs melded together into our furbaby. With all that energy, Joey has been an amazing running companion and knows without us saying a word when it is time to go.
He has become a huge snuggle bug (especially with me) and is convinced that he is a lap dog (we make it work). He is by far one of the fastest dogs we have ever seen, and all who see him darting here and there say we should enter him into some kind of contest. He loves attention from everyone he meets and adores going places in the car with us.
Joey has become such an integral part of our lives, we find ourselves talking about him all the time and just how much we love him. We often dread the day we will have to say good-bye to him and we are convinced that he will beat the record for longest-living dog (which, by the way, was a Heeler, so he at least has that going for him).
Our only regret is that we didn't adopt his sister, who was also left that fateful night in 2012. We pray she also found a home where her unique features and spunky outlook on life is not just appreciated, but loved deeply. Thank you, Petfinder and the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley. You were the link between a bond that will last forever.
