Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.

Personality: Nervous, but becoming more comfortable with human contact. She won’t willingly climb into my hand yet, but if I have to pick her up she is okay with it. She loves her sisters

Favorite treats: Dried papaya and sunflower seeds

Favorite toys and activities: Sarah loves to run on her wheel and make deep/extensive tunnels with her bond mates

Potty trained: No

This animal daily routine: Hanging out in her tunnel during the day with her sisters and becoming active at night. Running on her wheel late at night!

BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): Sarah is bonded with Minerva & Dolores the mice.

Health concerns: None

Behavioral concerns: Sarah is in our trust training program for her shy behavior towards humans, while Minerva & Dolores are in our trust training program for mouthy behavior when approached by hands. Her foster speaks quietly when around Sarah. She leaves treats near her while talking to her, to encourage her to take them and associate them with her foster’s voice. Her foster tries to not to pick Sarah up unless needed and have found ways to weigh her without having to hold her too much. Trust Training Update 1/11/2021 - Sarah will come out for treats sometimes, but not always. She's the hardest to find when weights are needed but she doesn't panic when being held. Her foster is quiet and slow with movements around her and will talk to her every time she is visiting the mice.

Other notes: Delores, Sarah, and Minerva are a tightly bonded trio. They spend most of their day hanging out in the intricate tunnels they make. They need a lot of bedding in their bin so that they can work on their tunnels. They like having toilet paper and paper towel tubes to help make their tunnels even more solid. Delores loves hanging from every inch of the bin and Minerva is starting to learn from her that this is fun and safe (even when humans are around). Sarah prefers to run on her wheel late at night when no one is around. During exercise time, they tend to stay close to each other. Delores will take treats directly from your hand, Minerva will if she’s sitting in your hand, but Sarah prefers you leave hers nearby for her to take away to safety.

Minerva, Dolores, & Sarah came to MNPPR after being found outside along with several other mice in a small dirty cage. When their rescuer could no longer afford vet care, they were transferred into our care.

Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN.
