Favorite toys and activities: Kernel loves to take anything she considers of value back to her cage to chew on. She loves to dismantle her woven hides and chew on all of her enrichment toys. She enjoys running on her wheel or doing hot laps around her play room. She loves taking her dust bath every other day. Wood chews and lava chews are her favorite.

Potty trained: No

This animal daily routine: Kernel gets out of cage time from 5:30-7:00 AM and 5:00-7:00 PM. She spends most of it chewing on her edible hides or climbing on the furniture in her play room. She get pellets in the morning and some foraging mix in the evening.

BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): No, Kernel will need a chinchilla buddy in her adoptive home.

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Cats - curious and friendly, Dogs only through enclosure bars - seemed unafraid

Has this animal been exposed to children and what was its reaction? Kernel has not been exposed to children.

Other notes: Kernel is adorable, incredibly friendly, and a very fun companion. She is entertaining to watch, whether she is exploring her surroundings, or napping in her hide, or spinning around in her dust bath. While she doesn't love to be held, she will tolerate it, but prefers to make the choice to come to you on her own. She enjoys getting into mischief by climbing chairs or to the top of her cage or getting inside a cupboard. She is sweet as pie and never dull!

Kernel found her way to MNPPR as a transfer from a hoarding case in South Dakota.

Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. Kernel’s foster parent prefers to meet at the Chuck & Don's Pet Food & Supplies, 910 Wildwood Rd, Mahtomedi, MN 55115 for meet & greets, & adoptions.

Fee: Kernel has an adoption fee of $70

Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.
