Due to health and safety concerns, we are now pursuing adoptions with additional safety measures in place. We will be asking potential adopters to discuss their individual preferences and comfort levels involving safety precautions during the greeting/adoption day step. We are HIGHLY suggesting all participants wear facial coverings, stay at least six feet apart, & use sanitization of all surfaces, and hands before and after contact.

Personality: Very shy (you are unable to touch this animal without it running away or being fearful, etc), Inquisitive, Friendly toward humans, Chatty, Playful, Energetic

Favorite treats: Oxbow hay treats and peanuts!

Favorite toys and activities: Running on his wheel! He, Anise, and Joe take turns... and sometimes try going at the same time!

Potty trained: Haven’t tried

This animal daily routine: Alaska gets attention and love from his foster family periodically throughout the day, but longer outside the cage time and dust baths tend to happen in the evening.

BFF (Does this animal have or need a same species friend in their home?): Yes! Alaska is bonded to his brother Anise and their father Joe!

Behavioral concerns: Joe, Anise, & Alaska are in our trust training program for their shy behavior and resistance to being touched. He's braver than his brother Anise and is ready to take treats from our hands, but we're still building his trust that people (and hands!) are friends by using slow, steady movements to offer treats and say hi throughout the day. Still shy around people, but is getting more and more willing to come say hi and receive treats than before. He's already comfortable climbing around his foster mom and receiving pets when she can finally coax him out of the cage (treats and transfer boxes are key).

Other notes: Alaska has so much happy energy, and hearing him, Anise, and Joe chatter lovingly together is the sweetest thing in the world!

Alaska & Anise were born in rescue after their parents were transferred from a hoarding case in South Dakota to MNPPR.

Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. Alaska’s foster parent prefers to meet at the Roseville PetSmart - 2480 Fairview Ave N, Roseville, MN 55113 for meet & greets, & adoptions.
