Our Mission

Bella-Reed Pitbull Rescue (BRPBR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit pit bull rescue organization located in Southeastern, Pennsylvania.  We are a small network of hardworking volunteers and foster homes dedicated to advocating for the most misunderstood breed in the world:  The American Pit Bull Terrier.  We are completely devoted to the positive promotion of the pit bull.  While we work mainly out of the Philadelphia and Southern NJ areas, we network with rescue groups and other informative groups all over the world.

Adoption Policy

Congratulations! Having a pit bull type dog is not for everybody. Unfortunately, breed discrimination is common; you need to stay positive and educate people when they criticize your companion. Renters struggle with finding pit bull friendly housing and some home insurance carriers will not cover pit bulls. Because we know how challenging it can be to navigate people and their biases and misconceptions, we ask that you fulfill these requirements in order to adopt one of our dogs:

~ Be at least 23 years old - we require a copy of your license to verify.
~ Adults in the home cannot have a criminal background. Yep, we do background checks on everyone in the household!
~ Be able to meet the dog in question as well as do meet-and-greets with current pets within our kennel license area. We DO NOT ship dogs. All of our dogs are adopted to residents in parts of PA, NJ, & DE only, and only within a 2 hour radius of our central location of Southampton, PA. Special circumstances with some dogs will be taken in to consideration.
~ Fill out an application. Impress us!
~ Show solid references. This includes your current veterinarian and non-relatives who can vouch for you.
~ Must own your home or have landlord approval. Yes, we WILL thoroughly check!
~ Agree to a home visit. We need to make sure your house is suitable and safe for a dog. We will guide you with any changes that need to be made.
~ All dogs living in the house of a potential adopter MUST be spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm tested on a regular basis, and on heartworm prevention. If there is a medical reason that prohibits any of this being done, written and verbal verification from a licensed veterinarian must be provided. This also applies to any and all household cats.
~ Household Agreement: everyone needs to be on board for the adoption. Yes, we ask them.
~ Pay a non-refundable Adoption Donation Fee. BRPBR has the right to modify adoption fees on an individual basis. For your convenience we accept cash, cashier's check, credit/debit cards, and PayPal. (SORRY, NO PERSONAL CHECKS!). Please note that there is an additional $15-18 service charge depending on the amount of the adoption fee when paying via PayPal, debit, or credit. A deposit on dogs that are not yet cleared for adoption may be required for approved applicants.
~ Sign a legally binding adoption contract.
