Our Mission

The Animal Services Department is committed to partner with Plano’s citizens, veterinarians, and animal welfare organizations to promote responsible pet ownership and to provide outstanding animal health and welfare and human health protection services. Our adoption fee* for dogs and cats is $80 and includes spay/neuter, first set of vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs, and a microchip. It does not include a health exam. We encourage adopters to take the adopted animal to their veterinarian within 48 hours of adoption for a health exam and anything else that their veterinarian recommends. Adopters will also receive a leash for dogs and a pet carrier for cats. Adoption fee for other types of animals will vary. Visits with animals end fifteen minutes before closing. Adoption Policy

Adoptions are first come first serve. There is no application. Anyone over 18 years of age is eligible to adopt provided that they meet the adoption criteria for that specific animal. Criteria can range from having basic knowledge of the animal’s species or breed, having an established veterinary history, not having young children, the animal being legal to own in the city they live in, the breed they’re interested in being accepted at their apartments, etc. If a potential adopter doesn’t meet the criteria in place for that animal, they will be encouraged to look at other animals that may not have those restrictions in place. The criteria must also be met in order to visit with an animal.
