Ziggy's Story

Ziggy has made a lot of progress since joining Rescue Row, and we are proud of how far he's come. As we have shared before, Ziggy can be reactive when meeting new people, particularly when he is being held and someone approaches him. We believe this behavior is rooted in fear and insecurity, likely influenced by experiences in his previous home. Because of this, Ziggy needs a family that understands his triggers and is committed to helping him continue building confidence through patience, positive reinforcement, and proper introductions. Ziggy has attended training session where they focused helping him have positive experiences meeting new people. Ziggy isn't a difficult dog, he's a young dog who is still learning to feel safe and comfortable in new situations. His foster family continues to work with him every day, and he already has additional training sessions scheduled. Ziggy does very well with the dogs in his foster home and gains confidence from having canine companions around. Because of this, Ziggy will need another playful, confident dog in his forever home. He loves to wrestle, play, and snuggle up with his dog friends. Per Wisdom Panel, Ziggy is 6 different breeds, with the top two breeds being 54% Miniature Pinscher and 29% Shih Tzu. Ziggy isn't the right fit for every home, but for a family willing to continue the work his foster family has started, he has the potential to be an amazing companion. Because of his shy nature, he is looking for a home with children 12 years and older. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs in shelters, dogs in abusive or neglectful situations, and dogs surrendered by their owners because of difficult circumstances. We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process, which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives. Dogs in our care are spayed or neutered, microchipped, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. Dogs in the greatest need take priority. Finally, we strive to work with shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless dogs.
