Meet Zephyr aka Zeffi

PLEASE READ ZEFFI'S ENTIRE PROFILE AND THEN SUBMIT A COMPLETED ADOPTION APPLICATION IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED

Zephyr *(aka Zeffi) Approx 8 yr , 13lb female Long Haired Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix?

Zephyr (aka Zeffi or Zippy) is a delightful little dog.

She loves the company of humans and hanging out on the back of the couch watching the world go by.

She is a spunky girl – everything is exciting and the world is her oyster to explore.

She is extremely food motivated – it’s the BEST thing ever in her opinion!!!

When she’s excited, Zeffi likes to show her excitement through vocalizations – a “woo, woo, wooooo” means good things are going to happen.

Zeffi loves being outside – there’s so much to explore and chasing squirrels up the tree is an enormous accomplishment.
She does come when called – MOST of the time, but sometimes the thrill of being outside is so much more exciting. That’s when treats are helpful – Zeffi will do almost anything for treats.
She is not a girl to be allowed off leash outside of a fenced yard, the world is far too exciting she thinks and she will need a family who understands this, and ideally has a fenced yard for her adventures in addition to walks/hikes for sniffing adventures.

Zeffi will thrive in a home where positive reinforcement training can be utilized to improve some of her “table manners”.
Because she is so food motivated, she finds sitting and waiting to be difficult.

Zeffi was surrendered to our rescue as an unclaimed stray through a shelter who was not able to provide her with the care she needed for her initial skin issues and hair loss.
She is now thriving in our care, has much of her coat regrown in and is a new girl ready to find her forever family.

No resource guarding or feeding concerns, she is thriving on her Bold by Nature raw diet , which is mandatory for her new family to continue feeding, to help maintain all of the success she has had with her health since joining our rescue.

Potty habits: Zeffi loves to be outside. She will go outside almost any time, although she doesn’t like going out in the rain (snow is perfectly fine).
She doesn’t have accidents in the house.

Our routine is “last pee for the evening” around 9pm and then inside for treats before bed.

Skills/Commands: Zeffi knows basic requests such as sit and stay.
Sometimes she struggles to “hold” a command if she is excited.

Bedtime habits: Zeffi goes out for her last pee around 9pm and has treats when we all come in. Then, it’s off to bed.

Zeffi likes a bit of space – she prefers to sleep on a comfy chair with a blanket, and stays there quite happily until it’s time to wake up for morning potty and breakfast.

We have never needed to crate her. Like many rescue dogs, crates don’t always represent security for them after a life often confined in small pens in former environments, and we respect that with her.

Other habits/routines that will help the dog settle into their new home:

Zeffi is a truly sweet girl. She isn’t too kissy, but does occasionally show her affection with little kisses. She loves to be loved.
Tucking her in at night with a kiss on the head and covering her with her favourite blankie are always met with a kiss and a tail wag.

Quirks/Challenges: Zeffi can be quite vocal when excited. Although she isn’t loud, she does need to continue working on her training skills, redirection to more appropriate behaviours.

This may be quite different in a home with fewer or no other dogs that are "barky" and of course with ongoing positive method training.

In her current foster, there are a number of other dogs and they do tend to feed off each others’ excitement.

Zeffi isn’t a dog who likes to play with toys. She’s much more likely to want to “hang out” than play.

Zeffi is a dream in the car. She waits to have her harness put on and she lays down in her carrier and sleeps when travelling.

Zeffi is also very well behaved. She isn’t high maintenance at all, she just wants to be loved and have fun adventures to be happiest.

Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dentals and all vet care, food and supplies during their time with us. This adoption fee does not at all cover all of our expenses

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:
