Yogi's Story

Hi, I'm Yogi, a two year, 8 month old 63 pound Shepherd/Carolina Dog mix, and I am a lover of my people.

I am located in Albany, Oregon.

I love kids of every age, and I am very adaptable to each child's style of doggie love: I enjoy playing with the 5 year old and snuggling with the teen. My current family says I am good at cheering anyone up when they are sad.

I also love adults, and other dogs. I live with a dog savvy cat, and we do fine (see the photo). I am house trained and can be left on my own loose at home. I am crate trained though we seek a no closed crate home.

I love being with my people most of all. I love belly rubs, my chicken toy, car rides, zoomies, playing keep away, chasing a ball and chewing a bone. If I sound like a dream boat, well, I am.
.
I am working on walking nicely on leash. More practice with someone who knows positive ways to teach me loose leash walking would be great. My rescue can help with good positive training videos and information.

Though I have been doing fine without a lot of exercise most days, I would love a more active life. Just know that I am pretty easygoing about it, if some days we just hang out.

I take a little time to warm up to visitors coming into my home,. I will growl and bark initially at folks I do not know, but I have never been aggressive. I am just getting neutered now and will be assessed by a behavior consultant.. Folks without a lot of guests (low traffic homes), will be a great fit, at least until we learn more about how to handle this behavior best.

I seek a home with a full sized fenced yard or acreage, and active folks who will include me in their fun activities.

Yogi is neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, and micro-chipped. His adoption fee is $150. He comes with his supplies: toys, balls, harness, his remaining dog food.

A great home for Yogi and his must haves include:

1. An owned home with a full sized fenced yard or acreage.

2. Folks not gone long hours, and who will treat Yogi like a family member and include him in their fun activities.

3. Adopters who believe in giving their dogs daily exercise, offering good nutrition and vet care. Folks who use only positive reinforcement training.

4. Yogi will do well with any age child with great dog manners, nice dogs, dog savvy cats and a low traffic home or dog savvy folks who help him with introductions.

If you meet the above criteria, and you are interested in Yogi, he is interested in you! Make your move and inquire or apply asap!

To inquire, please email: awoofovermyhead@gmail.com with "Yogi" in the subject line. Please tell us a bit about yourself and how Yogi will fit into your life. Please leave a number where you can be reached.

To apply, please complete the following application. Applications with thoughtful and complete answers receive priority consideration.

We will call you upon receiving an inquiry or application that is a good match!

Non-cigarette smokers only, please.
Thanks!

A Woof Over My Head's Adoption Policy
Interested folks email us, telling us a bit about yourself and how the dog will fit into your life. Ideally, please leave a phone number and email. We will get in touch with you, either to chat first, or to send an application. If your application looks great, we'll check in, and your references are called. If it seems a great match, a meet is arranged, usually at potential adopters home/yard to allow for home inspection (home inspection via video of public areas of your home during Covid-19). Adoptions that are a match often, but not always, happen at the meet: the adoption contract is discussed, signed and the adoption donation is paid. You will receive records via email and usually, a set of "operating instructions" specific to the dog you have adopted. Each dog is sent off with a harness or martingale collar and enough food to get started. You supply an ID tag with one or two phone numbers, and a non-retractable leash. We check in several times after adoption, and we are always available for questions or updates and photos!
