Meet YamYam

1/19 YamYam is getting ready to start a trial home visit with a prospective home ... fingers and paws crossed!

***
YamYam & her guy-pal Topher were surrendered to an overcrowded county shelter right around Thanksgiving. Having spent the better part of their young chiweenie lives being used/abused as a breeding pair, they are now happily retired from that business and in search of a home to start over as dogs of leisure.

While YamYam is a mere nine pounds, we're pretty sure she is a mighty German Shepherd in her own mind. (Chihuahua people know what we mean :O) ) She's much more energetic than Topher, is a speedster in the yard *loves* zipping around in the snow!) and can climb like a cat. She loves toys and usually has one in her mouth at any given time. Warning: She is a bit of a chewer so requires crating when not supervised. If you have a penchant for styling your dogs, you'll appreciate this little fashionista. Girl can wear a coat!

Three-year-old YamYam carries some baggage from her previous life. She is super shy, barks when people approach her and is afraid of men. It takes a bit of effort to win her trust, but she's very loving once you do. After years of being conditioned to expect rough treatment from humans, she is now learning to accept kindness.

YamYam is crate trained and good on leash. She will benefit from continued confidence-building and socialization. She and Topher can be adopted as a pair, but would also be fine going their separate ways. Each would be perfectly happy being your one-and-only furbaby, or might possibly be willing to consider sharing your love and attention with another dog. As is often the case with chihuahuas and especially factoring in her background/trust issues, YamYam needs a home without young kids who may not respect her limits and sensitivities. If you think this little lady may fit into your family, we'd love to hear from you. Please visit www.STAF.org for more information about our adoption process.

• All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.
• We do not do same-day adoptions; we ask that you return for a follow-up visit before taking an animal home.
• You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF.
• We require a 4-foot-tall physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog’s behavior and exercise needs.
• Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences.
• We do request vet and personal references.
• We can facilitate adoptions within a 75-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
