Meet Woody and Gus

Hi, we are Gus and Woody, or more formally known as Augustus and Woodrow. Our former owner loved us very much but sadly passed away. Several other family members tried to take us in but none had the right set up to welcome two additional dogs. So we have traveled from Texas to Wisconsin to get our new start. We are very much a bonded pair and need to stay together, although we do sometimes like a little space from each other. We have been through a lot and it would be a much easier transition for us to go to a home where we would be the only dogs. We were fostered with a cat in Texas without issue. Older kids in the home would be just fine but we can be a bit jumpy for little ones.

Let us tell you more about our lives currently. Woody gets up early at about 5:00, for a bathroom break, then settles back in bed for a couple hours. Gus likes to sleep until 7:30. We fill the morning with outside play and chase with each other and our two furry foster brothers. We eat breakfast at about 8:30 and eat separately so everyone gets their fair share-no stealing. After breakfast we go outside again for more play and exploring. We chase squirrels and once a bunny. We follow that up with a morning nap for about an hour.

When we get up, if foster mom plays her ukulele, Gus loves to start an all-out howl fest. He is the best howler amongst us! He also loves to watch out the window for his friend Daisy to go by. She is a cute beagle that lives
down the street. and he loves her. About this time we all go for a 30 minute walk in the neighborhood. We love to sniff all the smells. We get to see other dogs and our neighbor's little boys. We greet them with a wagging tail but have to be held back because we want to jump up with excitement. We usually go on two walks a day so we recognize the kids and dogs on our route.

At home we snuggle and chew Nylabones, and play indoors until the next potty break. If we see neighbor Al, we cry for him to bring us a treat. We generally nap some more, walk again, and eat dinner at 4:00pm. By then we are pretty beat so we do some couch lounging and alternate between dog beds. We take a few more evening potty breaks, then lights out at 10:00 pm. We settle in pretty quickly with our pillows and blankets. Woody likes to sleep together, though Gus can get grumbly about sharing.

Notes from foster mom:
Woody loves belly rubs and hugs, snuggling, running and playing. He loves to eat and loves Gus. He is sweet and funny and happy-go-lucky much of the time. He whines when he needs to go outside for a bathroom break. Woody can get cranky trying to adjust to new experiences but tries to adjust to the pack.
Gus loves all the things Woody loves. He needs to go straight out potty when he wakes from a nap so he doesn't have an accident as he did the first few days here. Sometimes he does a little snarl if he gets startled awake, until he sees he is ok. Otherwise he is a pretty cool little dude that is not really afraid of anything.
Neither dog has any specific training needs and they are not needing to be crated. They are living with two furry foster brothers and do like to play together but needed to be heavily monitored initially while getting to know one another. They wrestle and chase squirrels and romp in the snow or get in the compost together. They need a family with a lot of time for them. They previously did not have that and Woody gets particularly upset about being left. He needs to find a home that gives him security and stability. They are good on leashes when out walking and good in the car, but Woody doesn't enjoy the vet visits.

If you have room in your heart and home for two great new additions, please fill out the application under the Adoption heading on our website www.bassetbuddiesrescue.org and a volunteer will reach out to you.
