Wilbur's Story

Wilbur is the kind of dog who reminds you that sometimes all a soul needs is a chance.

When Wilbur first arrived in rescue, he was terrified. He cowered away from human touch and seemed unsure if people could be trusted. We'll never know exactly what his story was before rescue, but it's clear he hadn't experienced the love and security every puppy deserves.

Then something beautiful happened.

As Wilbur settled into foster care, he slowly began to trust and his confidence grew. And once he realized he was safe, the real Wilbur emerged: joyful, goofy, affectionate, and absolutely full of life.

These days, Wilbur greets the world with enthusiasm. Whether he's proudly carrying around a squeaky toy, drinking from the garden hose like it's the greatest invention ever created, or fearlessly charging through raspberry bushes that would make most dogs think twice, he approaches life with pure delight. His happiness is contagious.

Wilbur loves hard. He follows his foster mom from room to room, offers the sweetest smiles, and melts into pets and cuddles. Once you're part of his circle, he wants nothing more than to be close to you. He's the ultimate Velcro dog and happiest when he's spending time with his people.

Because of his rough start, we expect Wilbur may be shy and cautious when he first arrives in his adoptive home. However, with patience, kindness, and a confident canine companion to show him the ropes, we know he'll blossom all over again. The family who gives him that chance will be rewarded with one of the most loving, loyal companions imaginable.

Wilbur must have a confident, well-adjusted dog in the home to help him continue building confidence and navigating the world. He does well with children, men, and women. Due to his prey drive, he cannot live with cats or other small animals.

Wilbur has also shown some food-related resource guarding. Because of this, he'll need his own designated feeding space where he can eat comfortably without other pets nearby. Given his history, it's easy to understand why mealtime feels important to him. Outside of food, Wilbur happily shares toys, attention, and affection with both people and dogs.

Wilbur's journey has been incredible to watch. From a frightened puppy who didn't know how to trust to a happy, playful boy who embraces life with his whole heart, he is proof that love changes everything.

Now all he needs is a family to call his own.
