Wendell's Story
Meet Wendell, an 8-year-old shepherd mix with the soul of an old philosopher and the heart of a young sweetheart.

Wendell likes to take life slow these days. His energy level is on the lower end, and his favorite pastime is simply watching the world go by (though he has no problem protecting his backyard from squirrel intruders). He's a great listener, and every once in a while he'll even break into a little song, so a home with shared walls isn't the best fit for him. Wendell would do best in a setting where he can sing along with the Saturday tornado warning tests without disturbing anyone.

Despite a difficult past, Wendell's spirit is soft and affectionate. He loves nothing more than lying at your feet, content just to be near his person. He naturally keeps off of furniture and is perfectly happy with his own space on the floor. He's crate trained, potty trained, and treat motivated to the point that he's proven himself to be very trainable. He would thrive with someone who wants to continue his progress with clicker training.

Wendell is currently recovering from FHO surgery, so you may notice an occasional limp, but he's making great progress on his road to recovery and gets stronger every day. His physical therapy is very easy, walks and balancing exercises are all he needs. The vet staff have completely fallen for him too! Wendell has been an exceptional patient and won everyone over with his easygoing nature.

When it comes to other dogs, Wendell prefers the mellow crowd. Dogs who respect his personal bubble and won't get in his face are his best friends. He has greatly enjoyed his time relaxing with his foster sisters. He also has a playful side and loves a good session with his toys. As for little ones, Wendell has done exceptionally well in social settings. He likes every person he meets, young or old, and is very patient with children.

If you're looking for a low-key, loving companion who will happily keep you company at your feet, serenade you now and then, and ask for nothing more than a gentle friend, Wendell might just be your guy. This old soul still has so much love left to give.
