Vinny's Story

Vinny is an adorable 6 1/2 MO "puppy" (who weighs about 70# now). He is half Olde English Sheepdog and 1/2 Black Russian Terrier and is expected to easily be over 100# when fully grown.

Part of the Black Russian Terrier characteristics are being protective in the home, and Vinny has shown these instincts. He was adopted out at 2.5 months old, but has developed some of these protective traits by nipping at strangers. We are working with him, but he will need a breed experienced new Owner who understands these traits and that he may be a dog who will have to be crated when guests come to visit. He has not shown aggression or broken skin or even connected, but this is a behavior that you don't want to risk, so we want a new Owner who will be committed to training with him through this stage.

On a positive note, Vinny is great with all other dogs and great with the people he "knows". He is housetrained and crate trained and loves water, so he would very much enjoy a home with a family who has and emjoys pool time.

He walks well on a leash and knows some commands. He has a bit of resource guarding with his food (again; will need to be worked with), but not with bones in the home either with people or other dogs.

This guy is looking for a second chance in the right home and we know he deserves it!

If you are interested in meeting Vinny, please complete an adoption application on our website at https://www.love4pawsfl.org/adopt. He is up to date on vaccines, on heartworm and flea/tick prevention, microchipped, and neutered. He is fostered in Sarasota and his adoption fee is $450.00.
