Tucker - Special needs's Story
Tucker is.a special needs dog who is looking for someone willing to commit to him having a wonderful, pain free life. He is 2 years old, but with his spinal issues may not have a long life. We are open to chatting about him more in-depth. He is very much loved and we want to ensure a good match with someone who understands the commitment.

Tucker has had many vet visits (regular, neurology, surgical) and he's progressed immensely as he has gained muscle and health. He arrived with lyme disease and very thin in mid-December 2025. He was unable to walk more than 10 steps without stumbling and falling. Tucker is doing well on medical management. He is weaning off Prednisone and may just be on the one RX Omeprazole to help control fluid build up on the spine, but it could be at some point he has to go back on Prednisone.

Tucker's MRI showed what is causing his symptoms. It's a rarer condition called a Subarachnoid Diverticulum. You can read about it by pasting this link in a new browser. https://23282506.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/23282506/website/factsheets/SAD%20(FACT%20SHEET).pdf

Basically it a pocket of spinal fluid that gets trapped and puts pressure on the cord. Tucker's is at the C2-C3. SURGERY IS POSSIBLE and an adopter may want to opt for that, but it is expensive $8,000-$12,000 and a complex surgery, with a long recovery 5-6 months, with no guarantees that there may not be fibrosis or scar tissue when they get in there. Surgeons are working in a very small area with lots of nerves and blood vessels. Tucker also has some abnormalities at the C6 area that even if surgery was successful, my require another surgery down the road. Tucker is currently in no pain, he is loving life and his walks and sunny days.

TUCKER
- Sweet with everyone, cats and dogs and people
- He is typical of Dobermans. He is a velcro dog. He wants to be with people. If not crated and left alone he has chewed on our door frame. Not extensive damage, but should be secured when alone.
- He is urine continent, he never pees in the house, and is mostly fecal continent. He does not have accidents in the house as long as he is on a schedule and managed. Part of his issue affects his sensation When he senses he has to go, there is not a long lag time before he needs out. At this time. He goes about an hour after he eats in the morning and typically once again later afternoon.
- He sleeps well during the night. If he whines, that does mean he has to pee. He is not a dog who gives big indications of needing out
- We find him easy to care for, but not everyone will. It does take commitment and keeping him on schedule
- He is very mobile. He does still fall from time to time, but can mostly get up, though he is timid of doing so if he is close to something he feels might prevent him from getting up (under tables, too close to coffee table etc.)
- He likes the car a lot and loves to go even though he mostly has to lay down. Sometimes he does stand up and look out the window. He does need to be lifted into the car.
