Tonto's Story

Tonto has the biggest personality packed into a tiny body! He weighs about 20 pounds but is truly larger than life. Tonto knows what he wants and isn't afraid to tell you (literally, he will "growl" when he wants to go outside or get attention). We lovingly called him "rotten", as he is incredibly sweet and snuggly, but also has a sassy streak. Tonto is an energetic dog; while he does want to sit on the couch and cuddle with you, he also loves to run and play. Tonto is about 2 years old.

Tonto has had a lot of upheaval in his short life and is selective about his forever home. He loves people, but needs some time and patience to settle into his new routine. He warms up faster to women compared to men, and we do not recommend a home with children given his anxious tendencies. Once he settles in, Tonto is the most wonderful companion, but he needs flexibility and patience. Tonto's dream home would be with someone who is home often!

Tonto gets along well with other dogs and cats, but would prefer animals in the home give him space. As a rotten, sassy boy, Tonto is happy to lay down next to a cat, but if the cat chooses to lay down next to him, Tonto fusses. He would also do well as a solo dog.

Tonto is fully vetted: neutered, UTD on vaccines, negative for HW, and microchipped. Tonto struggles with chronic yeast infections in his ears that his forever family will need to manage.

If you are interested in adopting Tonto, please submit an application at tgspca.org/dog-application. Our fosters are located in southcentral Kentucky, but we welcome out-of-state adopters and can work with families on transportation.

Taylor Co SPCA's Adoption Policy
To ensure the best match for your family, we have an application process for our adoptable dogs and cats. You can access the applications here: https://www.tgspca.org/ After your application is submitted, TCSPA will review your application and contact character references, vets, etc. As part of the review process, you may be contacted to answer questions or provide a video tour of your home. Application processing usually takes 5-7 days. If your application is approved, you will be contacted to arrange a time to meet with your potential pet and a volunteer/foster from the SPCA. The purpose of this meeting is to ensure you and the animal are right for each other. If this meeting goes well, your pet can go home with you that day! Most meet & greets end with an adoption. During the meeting, we will review our adoption contract. Once the adoption is finalized and the adoption contract is signed, your new best friend is ready to go home with you!
