Toby, Mr. Cutie Patootie's Story

Toby is a 7-month-old, 27-pound chiweenie-German pinscher pup with adorable ears.

Toby's story began with heartbreak. At just 4 months old, Toby was abandoned at a high-kill shelter alongside his mom. While his mom was quickly adopted, Toby was left behind, scared and alone in a noisy shelter environment. Thankfully, a loving foster stepped in and gave him the chance he deserved.

When Toby first arrived in foster care, he was terrified of the outside world. Everyday sounds and unfamiliar surroundings overwhelmed him, and even going outdoors was frightening. But Toby found comfort in his foster sisters. By watching them confidently explore, play, and enjoy life, he slowly began to follow their lead. Today, Toby happily goes outside on leash, loves playing with his foster sisters, and enjoys stretching out in the sunshine for a relaxing afternoon sunbath.

Toby is shy when meeting new people and needs time to decompress in new environments. Once he feels safe, however, he blossoms into a loyal little companion who will quietly follow you everywhere. He is calm, gentle, incredibly sweet, and completely non-confrontational. He does not resource guard and has wonderful manners around other animals.

Toby currently lives with six dogs and one cat and gets along beautifully with all of them. He absolutely thrives in the company of other pets and looks to them for reassurance and confidence. Because of this, a happy, confident, playful dog in the home is required. Toby trusts dogs more than humans, and having a canine role model helps him continue building confidence and learning that the world is a safe place.

He is also a very smart puppy and a quick learner who continues to make progress every day. While he is fine around children, we feel Toby would do best in a quieter home without young kids. He spends a lot of energy observing his surroundings and making sure everything is okay, so a calm environment will help him relax and continue gaining confidence.

After everything he has been through, it's understandable that Toby is cautious. But for the family willing to give him patience, kindness, and time, Toby will reward you with unwavering loyalty and a bond that is truly special.

Toby has already come so far. Now he just needs a forever family to help him write the next chapter of his story. If you have a friendly dog looking for a best friend, and a quiet home where Toby can continue to flourish, this sweet little survivor may be the perfect addition to your family.

Toby is fully vaccinated, neutered and heartworm negative. He is kept on heartworm and flea preventatives.

To meet this amazing pup via facetime or whatsapp or other video chat apps, please send a completed application via www.savesomesouls.com

Yards MUST BE adequately and fully fenced to adopt our pups. We do not accept electric or underground fences.

Toby's adoption fee includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter surgery and recovery, heartworm and flea prevention), a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, and harness. Transport fees out of Houston can range from $150 - $350 depending on destination.

Our dogs are fully assessed by foster parents, vets and behaviorists, as well as videos and video chats are available to observe their manners in public. We are extremely transparent and like to share everything negative and positive with the adopters, to ensure it's a good fit and they are not returned to us, as the trips are very stressful on them.

Houston is home to million strays, many who are abandoned, many born on the streets, many who escaped while living in the yard, which is common in Texas. Since our rescue does not get grants that shelters get, we use adoption fee to help the pups and kitties in our care. Your adoption fee goes towards vetting and feeding our long term and permanent fosters, and unadoptable pups, as well as towards the monthly care and preventatives etc of our pets. By adopting one pup from our rescue, you make room for another dog to be rescued our high kill shelter, thus becoming an integral part of our mission to save as many unfortunate dogs off the streets and shelters as possible. So Thank you for choosing to rescue, and not go to a breeder.

Save Some Souls's Adoption Policy
Once a pet is ready for adoption, we place them online. Potential adopters must fill out our application form, which is mandatory before meeting the pup. Once processed, the potential adopters and fosters are connected to share more info about the pup. After the application is approved for meet and greet, the potential adopters coordinate with rescue to meet the pup. For an in person meet, we require a copy of the drivers license to be sent to us for verification. Out of state adopters are able to do a facetime meet with the pup. After the meet, we take notes from our fosters for final decision. If the foster feels the pup and the adopter are a great match, then we move forward with homecheck. Homechecks are in person or via video apps like whatsapp or zoom or facetime, Once all works out, we send our contract and fee invoice, and schedule pick up of the pup, either in person or via transport, if out of state. All our pets are fixed before they are adopted, no exception. If your application is approved for adoption, but it is not appropriate for the pup you applied for, we would offer you the right match or direct you to a more suitable rescue group who may have the right pups for your lifestyle.
