Meet Tiana! She is around 3-4 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. A good medium sized dog.
We are so grateful we were able to get her out in time. She was so excited to come here and has been nothing but sweet to all of our staff and volunteers. Tiana is very affectionate and loves to have her wiggly butt scratched! She also loves to play in water.

Tiana, unfortunately does have some medical special needs. We took her to the vet for a third time as we had been trying to determine why she has over the last few months been prone to UTIs. After multiple test, and medication trails, it has been discovered that she has stage 2 kidney disease. Tiana came to us all the way from Texas, she had been dumped on a rural highway and left behind by her owner, she ended up at a high kill shelter and simply because she was a black pit bull, and as we know black pit bulls are the hardest dogs to find homes for, she was scheduled to be euthanized for space. I saw her sweet face on a Facebook post from the city shelter and pulled her immediately. A few days later, she was on the road to KC and to us. Cut to a year of her being at our shelter, she finds a home that I thought was going to be the best thing ever. I did her home visit, the family and home were so nice, the adopter asked great questions and kept in contact with me for a while, sending pictures and telling me how great she was. One year later, she gets brought into boarding while her adopter is out of town... and they don't come back for her. And we find that she has been having issues urinating, but her adopter hadn't taken her to the vet.

So here she is again, in the shelter, I can only assume because she was having accidents, and her kidneys are failing her. Even with everything she's been through, and everything she's currently going through, she is the happiest girl. She gives everyone she meets big hugs and kisses and will do anything to get a little extra snuggle time. She is happy and loves to go for walks. Still, she is here, without a home of her own.

Tiana loves people and would be great in a home with kids, however we have not had any cats around since having her so we would have to introduce her to any cats that may be in the home before we could say for sure if she would be okay with them.
Tiana can be protective of her people at times, so it is important that she is in a home with owners that are committed to keeping he well socialized.
Tiana gets a long with many dogs but there have been a few that she has not meshed well with, she prefers chill, not so in your face playmates. But she would be perfectly happy to be an only dog and get all of the attention.
Much like their feline counterparts, black dogs find it difficult when it comes to adoption. Particularly larger black dogs - they are often left forgotten in what many shelter works call black dog syndrome. Basically, black pets typically are passed over for dogs and cats with different colors or unique markings.
If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet girl who eager to please, willing to learn, and very sweet, please consider applying for Tiana!
