Stormy's Story

Meet Stormy!

Stormy is a 10- to 12-month-old harlequin Great Dane who has never met a stranger. She is affectionate, happy, playful, and full of puppy energy. If you're looking for a goofy love bug who will keep you laughing and remind you every day just how much fun life can be, Stormy may be your perfect match.

Stormy is currently living in a foster home with a foster dad without any human kids but with four XXL furry kids, and she absolutely loves having other Great Dane companions. She gets along wonderfully with all of them and spends her days playing, wrestling, and enjoying life. Because she is still very much a puppy, we feel she would do best in a home with another playful large-breed dog or two who can match her energy level and help keep her entertained.

She absolutely adores people and has no concept of personal space—or her own size. Stormy is convinced she belongs in your lap and is always ready to hand out kisses and soak up affection. While she doesn't currently live with children, we see no reason she wouldn't do well with Dane-savvy kids who understand that she's still a rambunctious puppy who has no concept of her size and weight and is still learning her manners. She can be bouncy and enthusiastic, but everything she does comes from a place of pure joy.

Stormy is slowly learning what it's like to live in a home and is doing very well, but she hasn't had much formal training yet. She doesn't know many basic obedience commands, but she has an incredible desire to please and will do just about anything for love, praise, and affection. She is eager to learn and will thrive with a family willing to invest a little time and patience into her training.

Stormy is kennel-trained and is accustomed to spending the day in a large walk-in kennel while her foster dad works. She settles in nicely and doesn't complain about being kenneled. Like most puppies, however, she can't always make it through an exceptionally long 12-hour workday without needing to go potty. On a typical schedule, she does very well and can comfortably hold it throughout the day. We certainly can't blame a young puppy for having an occasional accident after such a long stretch.

Because Stormy has very little formal obedience training, a securely fenced yard is required. If left to her own devices, she's still a curious puppy who would happily wander off in pursuit of squirrels or anything else that looks fun to chase. The good news is that Stormy bonds incredibly quickly with her people. Once she chooses her person, she becomes a true Velcro Dane and has no interest in leaving their side. She does wonderfully on leash and enjoys accompanying her family wherever they go, content to stay right beside them.

Stormy's story began in Louisiana, where she was picked up as a stray in heartbreaking condition. She was starving, skeletal, covered in ticks and fleas, loaded with intestinal parasites, and despite being so young, had already contracted heartworms from mosquito bites.

Since coming into rescue, Stormy has gained 30 pounds and has blossomed into the happy, healthy puppy she was always meant to be. She has been dewormed, vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. She is currently undergoing our slow-kill heartworm treatment protocol with doxycycline and a ProHeart 12 injection and is doing wonderfully.

Stormy is looking for an active family that understands giant breed puppies and is ready to embrace all the fun, laughter, and occasional chaos that comes with them. In return, she'll reward you with endless love, unwavering loyalty, and enough cuddles to last a lifetime.

Stormy's adoption fee is $400. Approved adopters are required to travel to pick up the dane in person from his or her foster parent's home.
