This 10.5 week old, appx 17 lb puppy came into rescue from the Shenandoah Valley at *three days old* after four of her littermates died. She has been bottle fed and hand raised and has grown into an adorable, smart, playful, happy girl who is ready to meet her forever family NOW!

Here is what she needs in an adopter/adoptive home:

1. Her *ideal adopter is dog experienced; however we do consider first time dog owners. But if you've never owned a dog before, you must be willing to research and learn the basics of canine care and training. You should have experience and/or knowledge of the hound breeds which are unique and have their own quirks and needs.

2. Her adopter has a stay at home/work from home/take to work schedule in order to continue her training and all-important socialization.

3. Her dream come true is other dogs in the home as she LOVES other dogs. If she is the only dog (and gets ALL the attention) she would need access to other dogs in her neighborhood, at friends' houses, at doggie play group/daycare, etc. (after 16 weeks of age).

4. Because of her age and typical puppy behaviors, it's best if any children in the home are age 10 or older. (Dog experienced children age eight and older will be considered on a case by case basis.)

Sophie loves to play inside as well as outside with her sister and with toys. She loves the tunnels and climbing toys in her foster's yard! Be sure to watch her video! Regarding exercise, she is currently walking with her foster every day and continued daily exercise is a MUST!

Sophie has been dewormed multiple times, received a recent negative fecal, been seen by our rescue Vet twice, received her first DHPP vaccine, and has been given her first dose of prescription heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative. Her second dose of preventatives will be sent home with her adopter(s). She will need additional vaccines as well as additional prescription preventatives over the next few weeks/months. Her spay is the responsibility of her adopter and by Virginia law must be performed by six months of age.

You must be over 21 years of age with a regular, reliable source of income to adopt from us. We do not adopt to college students.

Please note that Sophie's adoption fee is $375.

***Regarding Sophie's breed mix***

We were told that Sophie's parents were both hounds but we have no way to verify this. We definitely see hound mix in her, specifically Bluetick Coonhound and maybe Beagle with some Catahoula Leopard Dog for good measure! Her *precise* breed mix is unknown. We have listed her projected adult size as medium (26-50 lbs) and we feel she will most likely be in the 50-60 lb range. We can make no absolute guarantees as to her size or appearance when she is fully grown.
