Ha! Whoever thought of naming me Snickers now the joke’s on them since I’ve gone from being a very big boy to now foster mom calls me her smol boi! She said I had too many sweet treats before I came to her and so I had to go on something she calls “the program.” I didn't know that meant I would be able to run and run and run! I love to run. And swim. And jump. And catch frisbees. And frogs, and chipmunks…oh no, I forgot foster mom said I shouldn't have any of those either. Tha’ts ok, because she gives me yummy treats and pets instead of frogs and I love that, I love when she gives me treats and to be petted by her. But only her. Yeah, new people make me sorta afraid, you know, I really sometimes don’t know which ones are good and which ones will be mean when they tell me to do something

Snickers’s foster mom here now… Snick is everything we love about cattle dogs - sporty, silly, loyal, and extremely smart. He would love to be your trail buddy, swim alongside your canoe, and later just Netflix and chill. He has a lot of energy which has helped him loose just over 10 pounds since he arrived in foster care very overweight. With that he is also very suspicious of new people and needs a human who is willing to manage his mistrust of strangers through limited human traffic in the home and carefully monitored human introductions. Snickers does not tolerate being touched or approached by strangers but will mind his own business while out and about in public spaces. New dogs on the other hand are welcome to the Snickers party! When encountering other dogs Snick will get very excited but just because he wants all the dog friends he can have! If he meets his match he can get a little rough in his play style, but is pretty good at tailoring his moves to the comfort level of the other dog. He currently lives harmoniously with a middle-of the-pack-to-slightly-assertive-at-home 2 year old female cattle dog about half his size. He does not show any food or significant toy aggression towards her. Snickers really really wants to go on all your travels with you, but his excitement is overwhelming and dangerous in the car. Snickers must be crated for car rides. He will happily leap into the crate and lay quietly in it, knowing adventure awaits! Also he would prefer you not take him places near lots of vehicle traffic - he does not like walking along busy roads and acts threatened by passing cars and trucks. Because of his need for slow introductions and a quiet home, Snick is not a good fit for a house with kids or an apartment/townhouse where he will be passing many people in common areas. He has not been in a house with cats, but has a fairly high prey drive - is always going after frogs (yeah he caught one) and chipmunks (has not caught one but is DYING to). He is fully house trained and knows basic commands. He is neutered and up-to-date on basic vaccines and preventives. He is 3 years old and weighs 56 lbs. Snickers is being fostered in Chatham, NY and his potential adopters will have to meet him in advance. Applications must be submitted through ACDRA.org. If you have questions regarding Snickers, email his foster mom emily@glensionnach.com.
