Siho's Story

Siho is currently in foster care in South Korea and can travel to the United States once matched with an approved family. All approved applicants will have a two-week trial and monitoring period.

Application: https://forms.gle/UmpfbgmydH7igSdN7
Photos and Videos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/QaYyAdhgkG9hRBsu9
Website: https://neveraloneanimalrescue.org/

PLEASE READ FIRST
Siho is a high energy dog who needs at least 3 outdoor outings every day. He is fully outdoor potty trained, crate trained, quiet at home, and comfortable being alone for a normal workday. He is friendly with adults, respectful children, and other dogs. Siho has a strong chase response toward cats and fast moving animals, so he should not live with cats or small free roaming animals. His outdoor recall is not reliable, and he must remain securely leashed outside enclosed areas.

MEET SIHO
Siho is an approximately 2 year old neutered male mixed breed weighing 44.1 pounds. He is affectionate, playful, intelligent, gentle, and exceptionally well mannered. His foster family says he is one of the most polite and easygoing dogs they have ever met.

RESCUE STORY
Siho was rescued from the Gyeongbuk wildfire site in South Korea. Despite everything he experienced, he arrived at his foster home gentle and trusting. He adjusted well from the beginning and appeared to feel completely at home after approximately 1 week.

PERSONALITY
Siho loves being near his people and follows his caregivers around the home. He enjoys resting with his back or paws touching them but does not particularly enjoy being held. At bedtime, he may lie on the bed until his caregivers fall asleep and then move to his crate, where he sleeps through the night.

PEOPLE AND CHILDREN
Siho is equally comfortable with women and men. He greets unfamiliar people with a wagging tail and gentle approach without jumping on them. He often gives kisses and may relax beside a new person within approximately 10 minutes. He has also been friendly and gentle with children. He would do best with respectful children who will give him space when he wants to rest.

OTHER DOGS
Siho gets along well with large and small dogs. He may join play when invited but is also happy exploring independently. When another dog barks or growls at him, he usually turns away and avoids conflict. Siho could live with a compatible dog but would also be happy as the only dog because he especially enjoys interacting with his people.

HOME LIFE
Siho currently stays home alone for approximately 6 hours on weekdays and up to 2 hours on weekends. He has not shown separation anxiety or destructive behavior. He is exceptionally quiet, and his neighbors do not realize that a dog lives in the home. He may bark briefly when he hears his caregivers returning but does not bark excessively.

POTTY TRAINING AND EXERCISE
Siho is fully outdoor potty trained and has never had an indoor accident in his foster home. Because he only relieves himself outside, he must be taken out at least 3 times every day. His current routine includes a 30 minute morning walk, a 1 hour evening walk, a 20 minute nighttime walk, and 20 to 30 minutes of ball play. He needs an active family that can maintain this routine.

WALKS AND LEASH SKILLS
Siho loves walks and becomes excited when exploring unfamiliar places. His leash pulling has improved on familiar routes, but he may pull and move from side to side in new areas. His handler should initially keep the leash short and secure, especially near streets and crosswalks. Siho responds to basic cues and is continuing his leash training. His recall is good inside the home and in securely enclosed areas but is not reliable during walks.

CATS AND SMALL ANIMALS
Siho becomes highly excited when he sees a fleeing cat, bird, or other fast moving animal. He may try to chase and can remain focused on the area after the animal has disappeared. A home without cats or small free roaming animals is required.

CAR RIDES
Siho was initially reluctant to enter a car but has improved with practice. He can now jump inside after a brief hesitation and usually lies down after approximately 10 minutes. He may still drool or appear anxious. Siho is calmer when traveling in a secure crate, so crate travel is recommended while he continues adjusting.

CRATE TRAINING AND GROOMING
Siho enters his crate voluntarily and considers it a safe sleeping space. He may hesitate to enter the bathroom but tolerates bathing, drying, and tooth brushing once grooming begins.

FOOD AND TREATS
Siho eats well but prefers having a person nearby during meals. He currently eats hydrolyzed salmon based kibble. His favorite treats include salmon and omega 3 treats, beef treats, soft sweet potato, and dental chews.

TOYS
Siho loves balls, squeaky toys, and plush toys. He quickly takes plush toys apart, so play should be supervised and damaged toys removed. He has not shown resource guarding with food, treats, toys, or resting spaces.

HEALTH
Siho appears healthy with no significant current medical concerns reported. He should continue receiving veterinarian approved heartworm, flea, tick, and internal parasite prevention every month.

MEASUREMENTS
Neck: 16 in
Chest Girth: 24.5 in

IDEAL HOME
Siho needs an active, attentive, and affectionate family that can provide at least 3 outdoor outings daily, regular ball play, continued leash training, and careful supervision around wildlife and traffic. He can live with respectful children and a compatible dog but should not live with cats or small animals. Siho is patient and may not complain when uncomfortable, so his family should watch him carefully and handle him gently. In return, they will gain a joyful, loyal, and loving companion.
