Meet Shash (Navaho)

Shash can be seen at a meet and greet/adoption event at Petco in Roseville, Saturday February 11 at 12 noon. 2775 North Fairview 55113

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. Please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption.

Shash is a beautiful and playful 9 month old dog who we think is a Golden Retriever - Shepherd cross. DNA from dogs from this area often have 20 or more identifiable breeds in their genes so expect to find a lot more than two breeds if you do DNA testing. Shash, her mom (pictured) and sister were surrendered by her family as they had more dogs than they could care for. She is fun, sociable and eager to please. At 45# we think she is pretty much full grown. She walks well on a leash and, after only a couple of week of working on it, she is doing well on house breaking. She is OK being crated and she keeps her crate clean so it is a good tool to finish up her house breaking. She is living with another young dog and the small resident dog and she regularly plays with the neighbor dogs. She would do just fine joining a multi-dog family. With some dogs she is very submissive, with others she would like to be in charge, but if that doesn’t work out, she is just fine being second fiddle.

Shash was a country girl and the city is a whole new thing for her, but she seems to like what she sees and is particularly excited to learn about squirrels as there were none where she came from. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Shash has been vet checked, wormed and had two routine vaccination and rabies. She will need one more routine vaccination at the owner’s expense. Her spay is scheduled for February 15 in Mendota Heights. She can be adopted now if her new family is willing to take her to her appointment, or she can be selected now and picked up on the 16th. The adoption fee is $375 adoption fee (check or cash). We do place pooches outside the metro area but we do not ship.
