Meet Shania

Shania's Story
-By Shania, a 6-month-old, 26lb female Great Pyrenees/Husky mix.
--------------------------------------------

Sometimes beauty can only get you so far. My original family wanted me for my looks. I was small. I was fluffy. And I had crystal blue eyes. There was no resisting me. I was everything anyone could ever want. Until I grew up at least. Until I started getting into things. Until I started getting bigger. Until I started asking for more from my family. Until I became more energetic and playful. It was then that my family realized they were not ready for another family member. They were not ready for me. I ended up being abandoned by those who I loved. I ended up living the life of a stray.

It is hard to believe that a puppy would find itself all alone. With no one to love. With no one to watch over them. That was what my life became though. I had to scavenge for food. I had to always be on guard because not everything..or rather everyone I met wanted to be my friend. You would think the life of a stray would have its perks. I mean, after all, you were completely free of responsibility. You can travel wherever you want. For a puppy that just wanted a family, it was terrible. Being on my own day in and day out was not my idea of a good time. The worse part about it as I had no idea how to change my fate. How did I get someone to fall in love with me? How would I ever get my shot at being a loved family member if I was trying to just make it to the next day?

One day my luck ended up changing but not for the better...at least not yet. You see I ended up being picked up. At first, I was so excited to be around people again. I was already imagining our future together. My hope crashed when I realized they had brought me to the animal shelter. I traded the life of a stray for the life of a shelter pet. At least, I was being fed and was off the streets. But I knew what would happen if I didn't get reclaimed or adopted. I already knew that my family would not be coming for me...so that left adoption. I held out hope that someone would fall in love with me...but it never happened. Before I knew it, I was on the urgent list. Me..an adorable puppy with crystal blue eyes and that was just about as sweet as they come! Thankfully, a shelter volunteer reached out for help and this rescue was able to welcome me to their fluffy butt family thanks to a foster family stepping up for me.

Before I knew it I was on my freedom ride. Which I did very well on by the way. I seem to enjoy car rides and do well on them. Once I arrived at my foster home, I was on my best behavior! I have not had an accident yet which is quite impressive given my age! My foster family does have a doggie door which may be part of the reason, and I am really good about using it. I am kennel trained as well but you will be happy to hear that I have not shown to be a big chewer in my foster home. I wasn't kidding when I told you that I have been on my best behavior! ;) I am still young but as of right now I have not been a big barker in my foster home. In fact, it is quite rare to hear me bark. While my house manners and energy level would make me a candidate for apartment living I am unsure if I would be happy in an apartment setting. I do enjoy getting to go outside whenever I please and having a yard to explore.

My house manners aren't the only thing that is great about me. I do very well when people visit my foster home and am quite friendly. I will make my presence known but won't jump on people for attention. Once they do start petting me, I just about melt into them. I do wonderfully around other dogs. I am friendly and playful with them. My play is on the calmer side though, more laid back and chill. I am not super energetic or running around the house like a mad pup. Just some chill and leisurely play :) I have met the cat in my foster home and pay her no mind. I am being fostered around kids and do great with them!

I am a very calm and sweet pup. I have not shown all that much interest in toys, but do like to pick up nylabones or sticks every now and then. I will play fetch with you and love chasing after the frisbee. I have splashed around in the kiddie pool my foster family has set up, so I do enjoy playing in the water. My foster family has taken me on walks and I very much enjoy them. I have not been to any public outings other than the vet but I did very well there. I was very calm around the other animals and friendly to everyone that I met. I have not been hiking but I definitely think it is something I would enjoy.

I never expected to be an until dog. I never expected to be homeless. I never expected to end up as a stray. I never expected to end up in the shelter. I did not have a say in my past, but I do for my future. I want a family that will love me and never let me go. I would fit into just about any home environment, my only request is that my new family make me a FUREVER dog...I don't ever want to be someone's until again....

If you are interested in offering me forever then please apply to adopt me at
https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Once you have submitted your application, it will be sent to my foster family for consideration.

I am being fostered in Skiatook, OK. I do ask that my new family pick me up, none of that outside transport stuff. If I am going to move in with you, I expect to start our journey in the car together driving home TOGETHER.

My adoption fee is $250.00.

That will include my DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordetella. I will be micro-chipped, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

EPILOGUE

-Below is an excerpt from Shania's foster family.

"Oh my goodness what can I say about Shania. She is just the best little pup ever. Not only is she drop-dead gorgeous but she is sweet, calm, friendly, and very well mannered. I can’t believe she went unclaimed in the pound. She is great with dogs of all sizes and ages, she does well with cats and loves kids. She will play with you or just sit on the couch and snuggle with you and her fur is soo soft, it’s pyrfect for snuggling! She is going to be an absolutely amazing addition to anyone’s family ??"
