Scrappy's Story

Scrappy needed to be released to us as his owner in mid-September... (his Dad loved him dearly) but could not take good care of him any more. It was a very sad good-bye but Scrappy, as his Dad said "deserves a happy loving life that I cannot provide him living in my car"... This young 1/ 1/2 year old male low-rider pity mix is fun to play with. He needs to be your only pet. So many people love him but have a dog already so cannot adopt him. His personality is adorable! Scrappy doesn't know or seem to like other dogs. possibly did not get the chance to socialize at a young age with others. (something that may be able to work on with training after adopted) He's great when we leash him up to go outside, his tail wags a lot and you can see he's a happy pup. We can adopt him to a family with kids 12+ yrs old. Scrappy doesn't give up his toys easily sometimes when playing. That is something you can definitely train him to drop (with treats)... Otherwise, he's such a great dog! Please always remember we offer a free training session with Canine Cooperative once you adopt a dog from us.

Stop by to fill out an adoption application and spend as much time as you like with our dogs. We do not adopt first come; we always select the best placement for our animals. Please call your veterinarian to permit them to speak with us for our vet check. If you rent, bring proof (lease/contract) that you are allowed to have a dog. If you have a dog at home, a meet-and-greet will be scheduled for the second visit. We offer a free session with our trainer, Canine Cooperative, once an adoption is finalized.

Our adoption fee is $150 for dogs. This includes heartworm and Lyme testing, flea/tick preventatives, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter if six months or older. If they are too young, we require a $50 deposit that will be refunded upon proof that the pet has been altered.

For more info on our shelter and available pets, check us out online:

West Milford Animal Shelter Society
Lycosky Drive, West Milford, NJ 07480
(973) 728-2859

Visiting Hours
Mon - Fri: 10a - 1p
Wed Night: 7:30p - 9p
Weekends: 10a - 3p
