Scott Budman's Story
Scott Budman is very sweet and attentive. If you tell him to go sit, he'll go sit. If you tell him to go in his playpen, he'll go and sit in his playpen. At night, his foster caregivers put him in a playpen where his bed was set up and he slept through the night. He does like to wait until basically everybody has gone to sleep before he goes into his playpen, but he sleeps through the night, and he's very, very chill. Scott Budman walks very, very slowly when he's on the leash but he loves being with people and is fine with other dogs; he's really looking to be a laid-back housedog. Scott would be a great pup for someone looking for a low energy, easy going dog.

Scott received a dental cleaning on 8/20/26! One tooth was extracted.

Scott Budman was transferred to Valley Humane on 8/2 from the East County Animal Shelter. He had been found stray. Scott weighs 31.8 pounds and is an adult dog (estimated to be aged between 4 and 7 years).

Medical disclosure: This pet has been diagnosed and/or treated for the below conditions. VHS won't be able to provide any additional medical care after the time of adoption so we ask that the new family agree to continue his care.
BOAS - also known as brachycephalic upper airway syndrome. This includes a combination of upper airway respiratory conditions. Specialty surgery with a board certified veterinary surgeon is an option to help correct some of these conditions. The adopting family may pursue this option at their own expense. A rhinoplasty (widening of the nostrils) has already been performed.
Periodontal disease – this dog recently had a dental cleaning at VHS. At this time, he required extraction of one tooth. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the life of this patient. The adopting family is encouraged to discuss continuing dental care for this patient with their family veterinarian.
Luxating patella - This means that the knee caps are loose and may move in and out of place spontaneously as he walks. At this time, the luxating patellas do not significantly affect his gait and do not appear to cause lameness.
Pigmentary keratitis: This dog has a condition called pigmentary keratitis. He has
developed significant pigmentation (a black discoloration) over the surface of his eyes (cornea). This likely impairs his vision to some degree although he remains visual. This condition is likely caused by exposure (having the "bulgy eye" breed look). Currently this dog’s eyes are comfortable and free of active inflammation, so we have elected to not start treatment while in the shelter environment. A consultation with a veterinary ophthalmologist may be considered.
Ear infection: This dog is currently being treated for an ear infection in both ears. His treatment involves the application of ear medication twice daily for 10 days. The ear treatments are due to end on 8/30/26 and should be followed by a recheck with your veterinarian. Ear infections are common in dogs. It is possible that this dog is prone to ear infections and may develop them intermittently through out his lifetime, requiring treatment by a veterinarian.

Do you have questions about this animal or are you ready to take the next step to adoption?
