Sapphire Mixed Breed Strafford, NH

Sapphire (now known as Layla) is a 2.5 year old mixed breed, who was adopted in August of 2020. She was surrendered back to the rescue in April of 2022 after she was involved in a confrontation at doggie daycare. She was evaluated by a trainer prior to transporting back to Texas and was found to be a relatively high energy, intense dog that lacked basic training and social skills with other dogs. She has been fostered in TX by a trainer & has been working with her since May 2022.

This is what her Texas foster had to say, “She’d be awesome for an active home with older kids. She’s be a great jogging partner after a bit more training.”

She’s improved a lot on the jumping up. She knows sit and she’s learning down. She’s learned the rules for tug and will drop the toy in exchange for another toy. She loves to play fetch and has even tried a frisbee training class.

She will go to her kennel on command and is wonderful in the crate and in the car.

Her play style is very physical and she does not take correction from other dogs very well. She has done well with the cats she has been around.”

Due to Sapphire’s history and her behavior with the dogs she’s been around since she has been in training in TX, she would do best with a new family that will continue with her basic manners training with her as she will probably need some refreshers and some more work on leash manners. She seems to be more reactive with small dogs, so would do best as the only pup in the home or with only a cat. Being a high energy pup, she will require an active adopter and daily stimulation/exercise.

She loves being outdoors. Whether walking or just laying in the sun. She also is a champ at snuggling up on the couch and is loving doing doggie puzzles for mental stimulation.

Sapphire is currently in a loving foster home in TX and is currently available for adoption in CT, ME, NH, VT, NY, NJ or TX.

We are a nonprofit organization - all adoption fees go towards the rescue and veterinary care of these dogs in order to get them ready for their forever homes. The transport fee is an additional $225.

We are a shelterless rescue. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes to help them de-stress and get used to a home environment while they await adoption, giving us the opportunity to understand their personalities and needs.
