Ruger 3344's Story

Needs a forever foster home.

04/26/26. Meet my newest love at the rescue, Ruger. Ruger is a 7 yr old big boy who is a big love bug! We are looking for a forever foster for him.

Ruger walks nice on a leash, but he has to use his harness. He has training, as you can see in the videos. He is very smart and eager to learn. He is a VELCRO dobe. If you want a big cuddler, Ruger is your boy! He rides well in a car and loves pup cups.

He is fully potty trained and waits until we take him out to go. He needs to be the only pet in the home.

Ruger would do best in a low traffic home. Like the Doberman that he is, he can be protective of his people and needs someone that understands the breed. Ruger likes kids, but would do best in an adult only home. He is a big boy, about 90lbs, but he is a gentle giant and just wants love. If I could take him home, I would. He is a truly special dog.

2/19/26 Seven-year-old Ruger is a stunning black and tan European Doberman with the kind of presence that turns heads and the kind of heart that wins them over. In the prime of his life, he carries himself with quiet confidence — strong, noble, and deeply devoted to his people.

Ruger is fully trained both on leash and off leash, responding beautifully with focus and reliability. He is also collar-trained, making him a refined and obedient companion who understands structure and thrives with clear guidance. Whether walking calmly by your side through the neighborhood or enjoying open space with trusted freedom, he moves with discipline and grace.

With people, Ruger is exceptionally friendly and warm. He bonds deeply and shows his affection openly — leaning in close, resting his head against you, or simply staying nearby because your presence is his favorite place to be. He adores children, especially those 10 years and older who can match his energy and understand his size. In return, he offers loyalty, gentleness, and a protective but loving spirit.

When it comes to other dogs, Ruger can be tolerant, particularly with those his size or larger. However, smaller dogs trigger his natural prey drive. He does not seek to harm them, but his play style is enthusiastic and powerful, often too rough for little companions. Because of this, he would do best in a home where he can either be the only dog or be carefully matched with the right canine friend.

Above all, Ruger loves the outdoors: sunshine, long walks, adventures, car rides — he’s the kind of Doberman who wants to be wherever you are. He is not just a dog you leave behind; he is a true partner. A steady shadow. A companion you proudly take everywhere.

Ruger is the perfect balance of strength and sweetness — a seasoned, well-trained European Doberman ready to give his whole heart to a family who will cherish the loyalty he so naturally gives.

2/7/26 Ruger is a large European Doberman with a big heart and an even bigger personality. He’s an affectionate and loving companion. He adores people and is fully trained on both an e-collar and leash. Ruger is comfortable with both male and female handlers and thrives in a home where he is the sole pet, as he craves undivided attention.

Despite his size, Ruger is incredibly gentle and well-mannered. He is housebroken, does not engage in destructive behavior, and can be trusted to roam freely indoors. On walks, he remains calm and non-reactive on a leash. However, his one weakness is fireworks—when they go off, he seeks comfort from his handler.

Outside, Ruger is full of joy, often breaking into his signature “wiggle-runs” with a big, happy grin. He’s the definition of a gentle giant, always ready for playtime, affection, and endless belly rubs. With his loving nature, he would be a perfect fit for any household looking for a loyal, affectionate, and playful companion. Not every dog is available for adoption or need a foster - some are wards of the rescue (usually due to medical reasons, but sometimes behavioral). These dogs will always be supported by DRL. We welcome financial support for these dogs.
