Meet Root

Hi, my name is Root! Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Anxious but sweet, sensitive, intelligent, energetic, playful
-Can Live with Kids: Dog-savvy kids ages 12+ (up to counselor's discretion)
-Can Live with Cats: No, I have a history of chasing cats
-Can Live with Dogs: No, I'm a bit undersocialized and other dogs make me nervous. I would benefit from some socialization with other dogs in a controlled environment (ie. with a trainer), but am not ready to share my home with another canine.
-Can do Apartment Living: No, I'd do best in a home with a fenced yard
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, one private lesson
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No

Additional Information: Root is a special boy looking for a special home. He was adopted from an out-of-state rescue, rehomed shortly after his adoption, and then surrendered to us here at WHS after only three months with his new family. Needless to say, Root is in need of some stability. Root is an anxious boy who takes a little while to warm up to new people/situations, but once he knows you he is your best friend!

Root would benefit greatly from a routine, some positive reinforcement training, and lots of TLC. He's a herding breed and would do best with someone who is familiar with herding breed characteristics. Herding breeds are high high HIGH energy and extremely intelligent - they need lots of physical activity and mental stimulation to keep them happy.

If you are an active person looking for an adventure buddy, Root might be your guy! If you'd like to meet Root to see if he's your perfect match, the first step is filling out an adoption application. Our staff will then review applications to ensure it's a good match before setting up an introduction.
