Reed's Story

Reed is approximately 5 years old and is believed to be an American Bully + Boxer mix. Reed seems to have had a rough start in life, as he was found very emaciated and dirty. He always slaps his front paws down on the ground when he walks which his foster mom thinks sounds like a duck. She affectionately calls him Ducky. He has two FAVORITE things in life, walks and meeting people! Reed loves doing both, and prefers to do them every day, all day. He makes friends EVERYWHERE!

Reed is a very special dog because he likes to live every day to its fullest because he has a heart condition and we just don’t know how much longer this special dog will be with us. This condition is called subaortic valvular stenosis and aortic insufficiency, which is just a fancy way of saying that his heart has to work really hard to get the blood moving out of his heart. He’s on daily medication, which is doing its job very well according to his cardiologist. He will need to be on this medication for the rest of his life and biannual visits with his cardiologist.

Due to his medical condition Reed needs calm home, who can take him for nice leisurely strolls, keep him out of high heat environments, and give him all the love and attention he desires! He currently lives in a foster home with a few other dogs, and enjoys hanging out with them, but would also do well as a single pet because he shouldn’t run around and get himself too excited. His favorite activity is sunning himself on the window bench after his morning walks.

Reed also knows a few basic commands, is working on learning more, and walks well on a leash. He is a strong boy and when he decides he wants to go meet someone, be prepared! Reed is also crate trained, house broken, and rides well in a car too. This boy has a lot of love to give for anyone willing to open their heart to let him in.

To apply adopt Reed, go to https://centralpaanimalalliance.org/apply-to-adopt.
