Meet Pup Pup

UPDATE 2/4 PupPup loves to play with balls and is really great at keeping himself entertained ... oh so adorable! He is a goofball at heart and loves dog buddies! With human kinds, he may put on a bit of a tough guy front, but under all that woofing is the heart of a cowardly lion. He seems to need to build confidence and become desensitized to new experiences. With a bit of guidance and training, he'll be furry putty in your hands. He'll bond fast and hard with his people, but will likely have a hard time in a revolving door household with lots of visitors coming and going ... chow-lovers know the type.

Nov 2020. Pup Pup was one of five dogs surrendered by the same person to a crowded county shelter. The dogs had all been left outside, and neighbors complained about their barking. With this kind of start in life, it was no surprise that--upon his arrival at our shelter--Pup Pup had absolutely no idea how to walk on leash. But more importantly, he *did* know how to love and receive love from our volunteers. He's a sweet kid who had a rough start, but is ready for his second chance (INSIDE this time!) with a fun-loving family of his own.

Puppers is around 40 pounds and 1 1/2 years old (est birth 5/19). He spent the holidays on a trial visit with a prospective home. While he didn't turn out to be the right dog for them (and in particular, their skittish kitty), the family offers some great insight for future suitors:

"Pup Pup settled into the house very quickly once we brought him home. It seemed like he was probably used to living in a house since he only had one accident the first morning and let us know whenever he had to go outside. We had to keep him from getting into some things like the garbage can in the bathroom and Christmas tree ornaments, but other than that he seemed to be decently house trained. We'd have to coax him to go in his crate at night, but he did pretty well after crying the first few minutes. He also did very well on car rides, sitting patiently in the back seat.

"Pup Pup is a very active boy who plays hard and naps hard. We tried to take him on at least one walk and play with him in the yard a couple times a day. He really enjoyed playing fetch in the yard with me in the mornings before work, and quickly learned to sit before I threw the ball instead of jumping to get it out of my hand. He had no trouble at all keeping up on 3-mile walks, and still had plenty of energy to spare when we got back home. On the days when we weren't able to take him on as long a walk, he definitely seemed more restless and prone to mischief. We think that he would be happy in a home with another playful dog to help him meet his activity needs on top of regular walks."

If you think Pup Pup might be a good fit for your home, we'd love to hear from you! Please visit www.STAF.org to find out more about our adoption process.

• All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.
• We do not do same-day adoptions; we ask that you return for a follow-up visit before taking an animal home.
• You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF.
• We require a 4-foot-tall physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog’s behavior and exercise needs.
• Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences.
• We do request vet and personal references.
• We can facilitate adoptions within a 75-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
